I think she’s a breath of fresh air,I have to admit to not being a fan of Jeremy .I find him arrogant and very uninformed about some things.
Susan is intelligent funny and inclusive and I hope they bring her back often.
She might just mean I continue to watch when there’s no nonsense from that man !

We have it on sometimes when I am tidying up the kitchen. I find Jeremy Vine rather patronising and his multi coloured shirts irritate me.

What happened to Storm?

Hopefully Storm has stormed-off! I personally could not stand her, give me Jeremy Vine over-her anyday. On the other hand,
I've always rated Susan Calman. She's so engaging, witty & as bright a a button. She was a solicitor or a lawyer before her her media forays, I think. The travelog she presents on channel 5 is absolutely wonderful.
She has a camper van called 'Helen Mirren' & off she goes merrily exploring the UK; chatting to interesting people as she goes.
It's just great. So I'm all for Susan Calman; as long as she still continues to do her joyous travelogues with 'Helen'.

I don't understand.
I watched Jeremy Vine on whatever the programme was then called - I'm talking 40 or 50 years ago, and just had to give up watching because I couldn't stand the man.

And it seems from a lot of these posts that many feel the same- BUT they're still watching!!!

How does he manage to keep going! I just don't understand.

She is better than him.

I think Storm is a bit lightweight.

rafichagran Thu 08-Jan-26 22:02:34

I am in the minority as well. I don't mind Jeremy Vine. I like Susan Calmam as well, but not fronting this programme. I liked it when Dawn Neesam stood
in.

Didn't Storm have a baby?

She’s had two, a boy then a girl, she recently returned from maternity leave. She also irritates me because she interrupts callers too much.

I often agree with what Y A-B says, but find the way she says it annoying. She talks over people, doesn't listen to other points of view and thinks that if she doesn't mind something (eg foregoing her bus pass) then everyone else should do it, which is no basis for a discussion.

The very worst for that is Carole Malone though. I don't know why they have her on, as she just shouts everyone down and glares at them. I tend not to agree with what CM says (although I sometimes do), but she makes every hair on my body stand on end.

I cannot normally stand Susan Calman but I think she has been very good on this. Intelligent but with a touch of humour thrown in,and I don't think she's funny!Would love to see how she handles anti British, bigoted, patronising lefty Yasmin AB.. Abhor that woman

As he is so unpopular and irritating, and I do agree, I avoid him like the plague, why is he still in a job? BBC? One of the many face -fitters? Regardless of popularity with the licence fee payers? Sounding very familiar isn’t it.

Have never seen JV on screen and I switch off from listening to him on radio. He is so.. irritating.

I'm not keen on Jeremy Vine, but there again I'm not keen on Susan Calman either so I didn't watch it. Susan went down in my estimation when she did the tours around Britain, it was a bit of 'look at me I'm cute and I'm only 10 years old' vibe. So different to whenshe was on strictly.

I have to agree with you there. I used to like her as a comedian but found her travel shows irritating.

I can't bear JV. I do put it on in the morning whilst I am pottering around, as I like to see what public opinion is on the sorts of things they cover. I think Vine is rude to a lot of people who phone in, and whenever he quotes a working class person he uses a silly accent - a bit like Agatha Christie when she gives dialogue to servants. He irritates me when he goes on (and on and on) about just scraping into the Gen X category, so he's not a 'Boomer', and is clearly so proud of that. It's quite offensive. He's also what my mother would call 'very pleased with himself', and the ridiculous clowning around makes things worse.

Sadly, I'm not that keen on Susan Calman either, and turned it off after a while this morning. I liked it when Ann Diamond took over, and like Alexis and Matt. They all recognise that callers are not media trained and are more forgiving than Vine. They also hide their own opinions a lot better when discussing controversial issues. I don't care for Dawn Neesom either - she's ok as a panellist, but I'm not keen when she steps into the chair.

I do like Storm though, and hope she's not being sidelined by sharing her slot with Alexis. Maybe now she has two children she recognises that she might not be able to be there so early, so they will share the time between them? I think the show would be best with Storm as the lead, Vine gone, a revamp of the panelists and maybe rotating the others so Storm gets a day or two off a week until the children are a bit older, although that might not be enough to keep them on the books. Vanessa was ok when she stood in, too, but I can't bear her new show, and switch off before she comes on. If the Beeb had a decent alternative I'd defect, but as it is I watch JV grumpily, as the format suits the morning 'in and out and doing other things at the same time' nature of my mornings.

PS I like Jeremy Vine but he doesn’t seem popular with a lot of Gransnetters. His style seems a bit tongue in cheek to me. Susan Calman’s ok too.

Didn't Storm have a baby?

Storm has been back for a while after having her second child. Her programme starts at 11.30am. After Christmas she was joined by Alexis Conran - they are cohosting the ‘new’ programme together.

I like Susan Calman’s travel shows, but I’ve never watched Jeremy Vine. Is that a daytime prog? I’d love to get paid to go on cruises and stay in the best cabins! She’s vertically challenged, like me! 🤣

I did think of marketing it as a new name for a campervansmile All my cars have had names.

merlotgran Wed 07-Jan-26 15:03:39

It’s a great name for a camper van though, Bukkie.
DD calls her’s Harry!

GrannyGravy13 Wed 07-Jan-26 13:10:30

I love Susan Colman, she is witty, intelligent and comes across as being very kind.

Bukkie Wed 07-Jan-26 13:03:14

I am one of the few who don't mind Jeremy Vine. My Dad and husband hate him and swear at the television when he is on. I do love Susan Calman in everything she does, cruising, her travels in Helen Mirren her campesinos etc... She is just so warm, funny and friendly. Matthew Wright is odious and should never be allowed on the television again after the lies he told about John Leslie.
