I have just seen the Bake Off Prue Leith thread.

I have never watched Bake Off, Strictly, BGT, Sewing Bee, Traitors etc.

Am I the only one?

I m not able to pay for other stuff like Amazon Sky etc it’s tough enough paying the tv licence I have a smart Tv so can find other things I guess
I ve occasionally landed on Naked Attraction by mistake and just find it so funny but pretty boring and ‘why would you ‘ I realise why we wear clothes

Foxie I watched a couple of seasons of MAFS when my grown up grandkids were either visiting here or talking about it I found it ever so funny and watched it with glee for a couple of seasons but I m past it now

I do watch the A and E, GP practice, border control type programmes when nothing else is on they are better than nothing
I love a good documentary or drama but they are so few around A lot of the dramas I start and get so disappointed

I certainly wouldn’t watch these reality type programmes as first choice if there were better things on

I never sit just watching TV I m always doing a jigsaw or drawing sorting photos etc etc or something while it’s on but it is company when you are living alone and gives me a laugh something badly needed nowadays

Traitors is my favourite may well go off it if they have too many

I have watched some of these programmes in their early years and BGT back in the day when Simon Cowell looked human, but I CBA with all the fakery of many of them now. I think when many started, they were a new format and interesting, but many have run their course and become too samey.

The best way to watch current television is through a Sky box. You can then record the programmes that you like and fast forward through the adverts and the bits of the programme you don't like. For example the inane bits of Strictly.

Unfortunately you have to subscribe to Sky, something I will never do again!

With a smart TV there really isn’t any need for Sky.

I don’t enjoy reality TV, soaps, quizzes or celebrity culture. Fortunately the people I know don’t talk about tv, so that’s ok. I do like some detective series and a good film or documentary. Quite often the tv is off and I’m doing a puzzle or playing music or knitting/ crocheting. It’s interesting to hear about each other’s hobbies and interests.

I don't watch much TV but I've dipped into most of the popular reality programmes over the years and enjoyed some and not others. I love watching the traitors, and much to my surprise got into Married at first sight during lockdown. Tbh I'm open to most programmes but will ditch them if I don't get on with them. They provide light relief which is good for my soul.

I’ve never watched any of those programmes, and yet I manage to watch a lot of television. News, current affairs, documentaries, selected comedy.

Mojack26 Thu 22-Jan-26 21:26:45

I hate majority of these programmes! Only 2 I watch Strictly and Masterchef....the rest 😴😴😴😴. Each to their own

FranP Thu 22-Jan-26 20:55:24

Loved BGT, but now there is hardly ever anyone from Britain on it

SunnySusie Thu 22-Jan-26 20:24:37

I have never watched Bake Off, BGT, Sewing Bee, Traitors or soap operas. I did watch one series of Strictly when my daughter was working on it as a runner and we went to the live show in the studio. That was fascinating. I now only watch iPlayer and generally choose documentaries, drama or films. In Covid I binge watched comedy to try and escape from reality for an hour or two.

I resisted Strictly for about the first 10 years; but then I saw a clip of the dancing & decided to give it a go - I now pause it for about 15 minutes at the beginning so that I can fast forward through all the nonsense & just get the joy of the dance (and of those oh-so-talented singers & musicians!). However, depending on who replaces Tess & Claudia I may well stop watching now.
I do watch Sewing Bee sometimes, but it very much depends on the host for each season.
Never watched any of the other reality shows, & have no wish to!

NanKate Thu 22-Jan-26 19:39:46

I have just started watching The Great Pottery Throw down. It’s great imo.

Never watched the Traitors.

Chardy Thu 22-Jan-26 18:56:41

Strictly & Sewing Bee only. I did watch all the Wool thing too

And soaps went decades ago having watched Corrie for 40yrs and EastEnders for 20 because I added up how many hours I was wasting

HowVeryDareYou2 Thu 22-Jan-26 18:40:09

I've never watched any of those things

lizzypopbottle Thu 22-Jan-26 18:00:22

I do watch the Sewing Bee but it irritates the life out of me every time. I usually forget to watch it on the day and catch up on iPlayer. I've never watched any of the other cult shows. In fact I hardly ever watch TV!

Magme Thu 22-Jan-26 17:10:07

I love to watch them all apart from I’m a Celebrity as I can’t bare watching them eating vile parts of creatures. I love The Traitors, I’ve only watched the British shows, however I’m tempted to watch the Irish version. It’s brilliant that it’s on atm. Something to look forward to on these dull, wet winter days.

springishere Thu 22-Jan-26 17:05:50

Such a relief to know that I'm not the only one who never watches these. I sometimes record Strictly for the dancing, and fast forward through all the chit-chat. Why does everyone shout so much?

Greyduster Thu 22-Jan-26 16:21:35

I don’t like reality programmes with so called celebs either, and have lost interest in all the craft based shows now, though GS loves bake off and if he comes round we might watch those to keep him happy. It does rather set you apart from folk though; all my neighbours enjoy these shows and when we have our get-togethers I do feel the conversation going somewhat over my head these days. The nearest I can come is “Mortimer and Whitehouse Go Fishing”😂!

Barbadosbelle Thu 22-Jan-26 16:17:53

Sago

No. #metoo .......

..... but with the exception of 'The Traitors'. We're totally addicts. It's in a class of its own.
.

Flumps70 Thu 22-Jan-26 16:11:35

I haven’t watched any of them either

pen50 Thu 22-Jan-26 15:56:50

Never watched any of them either, Sago. But then I watch very little TV of any sort. No interest, nowadays.

Oddly, I was an absolute telly addict as a child!

Jess20 Thu 22-Jan-26 15:50:03

I don't like the so called 'reality' type programs either, they appear set up for competitiveness and drama rather than about the cooking, sewing, dancing or whatever. By accident got an eyeful of naked attraction, which was really horrible, and I'm not a prude. I like informative programs about how to do or understand real things though, for example, programs about cookery (Jamie, Delia etc) and maybe nature (Spring Watch) but otherwise all the phoney competitive drama does nothing for me.

KKOB Thu 22-Jan-26 15:43:56

Haven't ever seen any Bake Offs, Sewing Bees, Traitors, Love Islands, Celebrity Chefs, Naked Whatever, I'm a Celebrity, Big Brother, Britain's Got Talent etc. I feel so much better for it.

Browncow Thu 22-Jan-26 15:34:59

You’re not the only one Sago! I don’t follow any of the reality programmes and find them quite boring. I have however watched the Pottery Throwdown occasionally and have enjoyed watching their creations and commentary. My favourite programmes on television are good dramas and documentaries.

knspol Thu 22-Jan-26 15:04:58

I do watch Sewing Bee as I love sewing although could easily do without the annoying 'personalities' who walk around chatting to the sewers and generally getting in the way.
Used to enjoy Strictly but nowadays I record it and fast forward through all the inane chatter and even the judges comments and just watch the dancing. Can watch the whole thing in around 20 mins.
