This bit of your post at least made me laugh ... Could be made by Ken Loach or Mike Leigh.. Advice and Consultancy by Jo Brand ... because Loach etc do know how to make a depressing or as some might say, "gritty" film.

Perhaps they should make a series about a very overworked and under resourced NHS Hospital and call it the The Pits.

You know opening scene..Typical big city A&E dept at night. Hmm.Sorry now rechristened Urgent Care.

With elderly patients waiting on trolleys. Junkies and Alcoholics screaming, fighting and vomiting and being abusive to staff.

Security staff at their wits end

And to complement the whole thing a bunch of striking Junior Doctors sulking and demonstrating outside the main admissions entrance

Ah Hill Street Blues!

I used to absolutely love St Elsewhere, and if I'm correct, it was the start of Denzil Washington's career. Also loved Hill Street Blues. Class series both!

Despite the occasional jibe from British viewers about American TV, in fact their drama series are - generally - exceptionally well made.
They often have a common thread, with interwoven plot lines, and in many series a fast pace.
Far too many to think of them all, but on the medical side, there'd be House, ER, Scrubs, St Elsewhere, Chicago Med, Grey's Anatomy, and perhaps MASH (scores as a comedy too!).
And for legal ones, The Good Wife (spawned Good Doctor too), LA Law, Boston Legal, and the umpteen assorted Law & Order shows. They of course had a police procedural element, and for cop shows, well, I can still recall the theme tune from the wonderful Hill Street Blues, and the excellent NYPD Blue was another great show.
We do have our homegrown Casualty and The Bill though (& I'm old enough to remember Emergency Ward 10 & Dixon of Dock Green . . .).

Loved ER, watched every episode. Hoped this would be as good and it is. Watched both series and hoping there is a third🤞

I’m also liking The Pitt, and I noticed the shaded bit at the start where the warning e.g. “medical content, drug use” etc is listed. I just assumed it was to draw attention to that, as it disappears with the warning. I like the analogy that it’s just as if you’re coming to, Merrydale.

Dr Robbie is totally crushworthy as he goes about his business, he so cool!

Haven't seen it, but makes you wonder if Noah Wyle wanted to be a doctor in real life! I was a fan of ER from day one but stopped enjoying it after Mark Green died. I watched it for abit longer but to me it wasn't the same. Luka/Abby were great then she cheated on him, Carter went to Africa or something like that...... It was as if they were trying to keep some of the other characters relevant, it just got tedious for me and I gave up. The early series WERE BRILLIANT!

It's on my list. I understand it's like 24 with Keifer Sutherland, which was one of my all time favourite tv programme.

I’m obsessed with it. Binged the first series and am now having to be patient and wait for episodes to be released weekly. I especially love the young neurodivergent female doctor and the sassy charge nurse with the great New York accent.

It's a medical drama, set in a hospital in Pittsburgh and stars Noah Wyle, who was also in ER.

That dark strip across the top is basically mimicking a partially opened eye like you’re waking up, blinking, or struggling to focus. It feels like you’ve just come to, rather than calmly starting a story.

You need to watch or rematch ER it was very similar. However I have noticed all the US medical series reuse the incidents and diseases over and over again. In very similar scenarios. I know coz I watch almost all of them. 😂

Yes it's brilliant, isn't it. I've been binge watching, but I'll run out of episodes soon.

The speed of it fascinates me - the number of people in each scene, the rapid dialogue - just the sheer choreography of it all. Must take an awful lot of rehearsal.

I've just watched the episode dealing with the victims of the festival mass shooting - absolutely incredible. I'd love to be on set when they're filming. Outstanding TV, no doubt about it.

Just started series 2 I'm galloping through these, its definitely the "Child" of ER, fast and brilliant .
Fully understand why it's won awards, love it.

Hi Supernanal, I am totally hooked on this programme, having been a massive fan of E.R. long ago. This is in a similar style, but just as engaging and enjoyable, Noah Wyle is fantastic in this and brings it all together. I have noticed the darkness at the beginning but cannot shed any light on what it signifies if anything.
