Galaxy - David was written to kill Nigel. I’m still in Therapy. Nigel was a cracking character. TA still misses him and his friend, Tim ? Somebody. Naughty giddy boys

My mother used to listen to the Archers so I remember it from those days. I stopped listening when I got married but picked it up again probably 20 years ago and I listen every evening whilst I have a bath. Like any soap, it has some silly storylines, some health issues, some irritating characters but I love it. My two best friends from school days also listen so we chat about it & the characters quite often.

It is a soap opera now really, but my point was that I didn’t feel it was so much of a soap opera in the early sixties when Dan and Doris and, my own favourite, Walter Gabriel were in it. Has anyone read the trio of books written about the Archers and the village during the second world war? Can’t remember the author, but they’re very good.

The Archers podcast is interesting.

They have sometimes have writers on who explain that some of the story lines have been two years in the making! Things are played out in real time

The current Brian story is pretty tedious in my opinion.

How can anyone refer to Nigel’s death in that way Greydusyer.
Some of us have never forgiven the script writers for killing Nigel, a really excellent character. I seem to recall the producer at the time had worked on Eastenders

I have times when I’m interested and listen regularly. Times like now when I might catch up when driving, it’s my one soap .

The last time we listened to the Archers was the episode when some bloke jumped/fell off a roof. We stopped the car to listen to that and now I can’t even remember his name! Bring back Dan, Doris and Walter Gabriel!!

Oh it’s fine, it’s a soap opera that a lot of us can just get lost in, so please let us be. We all have our own tastes and opinions ones man’s meat is another’s poison isn’t it?

I like that you can listen occasionally but still feel you know all the characters. There's always one interesting story line.

I recall when Rob Titchener got together with Helen and he managed to insinuate himself with the local hunt.

It was cringeable when they went to their first meet and Rob insisted on Mansplaining about it all. Talk about Hunting-By-Numbers-Made-Easy-For-Peasants!

I listened for over 40 years from about 1970. The Helen/Bob story was so brilliantly done and somehow I lost interest after that.
Perhaps I should give it another go.

We do listen although there are some weeks when we wonder why! It’s a bit of an acquired taste unless you have been listening since childhood, as I have.

I listen in bed at night just before I go to sleep. I love it and it helps me to unwind from the day

I still love The Archers, so does DH. Some very relevant and well-told storylines, IMO.
(Not least currently, regarding what different people may do, when their beloved son commits a crime.)

I used to have my supper listening to the Archers as a child, still listening now!

I listened every Sunday morning, as I had since a child, until all the hoo-ha with Ed and Will and Emma and baby George. At that point I felt it had fallen into soap opera storylines and I stopped listening.

It is a soap opera though, isn’t it?

I've listened since it started in the Midland region. When I met my husband I found out that he also listened and we still both do.Yes sometimes it gets stupid, boring, or ridiculous but we keep listening. We have got tickets for the live show.

I have listened to the archers first more than 40 of their 75 year run. They must be doing something right.
Their story line about dementia as well as coercion in marriage were both able to progress over real time and both woukd have educated many listeners, especially the coercive one.
