New thread.

Maybe those scenes at Gemma's house and the fees problem for Joseph are to underline their need for money then hey presto - a long lost aunt died! Hmmmm. Will Gemma inherit a fortune? What might she do with it? Doesn't bear thinking of!
Note this isn't a spoiler, just me wondering.

That eventuality crossed my mind, too, Aveline.

There could be a lot of comedy value if Gemma and Chesney become the Posh and Becks of the cobbles. Imagine Sally's reaction, for a start, and think of the possibilities for Gemma's wardrobe grin.

Calendargirl When Gemma and Chrsney are out the quads are colouring in the childcare cupboard with Glory, Alfie and Frankie. There's space now because Harry has left after 10 years in there and Bertie has an endless supply of new mummies to look after him.

The uniform swap scheme has been happening in my area for years, Gemma hasn't invented it. And like everyone else on the Street they can afford to eat and drink out all the time.

Yes, if Gemma and Ches cut out a few visits to the Rovers, (not sure who is minding the quads), they could afford a few pairs of serviceable children’s shoes.

School thrift shops have been around for decades

I think highlighting issues on soaps to raise awareness is fine, the problem with Corrie (I don't watch any other soaps now my beloved Neighbours is no more) is that they don't usually follow them up. Paul's MND was beautifully acted and realistic as was Peter's alcoholism but most other issues are forgotten. This includes Toyah's ovarian cancer, David's epilepsy, Jack's amputated foot, Tracey and Carla's kidney transplants, Nick and Shona's head injuries, Tim's illiteracy and Bethany's stoma to name a few. Children are born after a two minute labour and usually anywhere but hospital and then go in the childcare cupboard. I know it's a drama but why only highlight part of a story.

I think Kit will be diagnosed with breast cancer. It will be a TV first for a man to get breast cancer I believe.

My husband carries the BRCA1 gene and discovered a big lump in his chest. After tests at the breast clinic they decided it was caused by one of his meds and not breast cancer thankfully. The clinic was very busy and he was the only male in there.

Thanks for no spoilers, Calendargirl. They really do spoil the show for me (including who is leaving).

I agree about Todd - he’s gone from nice to nasty in very short order. Maybe he has PTSD after Theo? As I’ve said, I much prefer the domestic storylines to high drama - murder, prison, hospital, gangsters etc shouldn’t be in soaps IMO. Maybe one big drama every couple of years would work, but not something that drags on and on, as happens now.

It was good to see the quads for a change. Surely the council would rehouse them - five children and at least two adults in a two bed house is very overcrowded by today’s standards.

BlueBelle Tue 01-Sept-26 07:09:19

I agree with you Buckie I too think she was very underused

Well we can see where the Bernie, Gemma, Kit story is going the very least likely will have ‘it’ and be another public health story
I think it’s really good when Corrie does a storyline that shakes people knowledge or lack of it up ……BUT …….. give it a break Corrie we don’t need one after the other after the other.

Calendargirl Tue 01-Sept-26 06:40:14

Heartily sick of Todd now, wandering about drunk all the time, and sleeping with all and sundry.

His ‘friends’ would be more help not arranging meet ups in the Rovers every touch and turn, and tell him frankly he needs to cut back on his booze and put in a proper days work from now on.

All this nonsense about not being there for Celeste. He’s only known her a couple of weeks or so.

Bernie and Gemma, neither of them having a clue about genetic risk of breast cancer, suddenly will be at Doctor Gaddas’s ever open door for an instant appointment.

The storylines are depressing and poor.

Mollie Gallagher (Nina) is performing as Clarice Starling in the stage show Silence of the Lambs. She didn't want to leave Corrie but couldn't do both. I liked Nina and feel she was underused.

Why is Nina leaving?

Think she’s going in to a theatre role somewhere.

She must have been in Corrie for several years now.

How long is it since Seb died? 🤷‍♀️

Primrose53 Mon 31-Aug-26 09:51:13

Why is Nina leaving?

Calendargirl Mon 31-Aug-26 07:53:35

The whole Celeste thing seems ridiculous. Gemma with the ever open mouth visiting some great aunt who she’s never heard of.

Obviously to start yet another family illness issue. 🥱

And have already read who is going to be affected, but won’t post spoilers.

Felt sorry to see Nina go, hope she likes Whitby.

I have also read that viewers have taken to social media saying how much they dislike the Jodie character and apparently that has been noted.

Hopefully her going will happen soon.

Sarnia - Yes please do tell us what Jodie actress has done. I wonder if she is the actir/actress Jane Hazelgrove (the fabulous Bernie) was commenting on a couple of weeks ago.

Olivia Frances who plays Jodie is leaving the soap. All the bosses will say at present is that there have been behind the scenes problems that have made them make a 'final and irreversible' decision to finish her character. As her episodes are still being aired, perhaps they are being cautious about saying too much. Hopefully, we will get all the gossip once Jodie goes.

Ooh. Where do you find out about behind the scenes disputes?

It was in one of the magazine supplements a few weekends ago. If you Google 'Jodie leaving Corrie' there is a mention of it. Can't come too soon for me.

Jodieb Sun 30-Aug-26 15:15:19

I read that too about zjodie but it didn't give any details.

Bukkie Sun 30-Aug-26 10:22:58

Actor! Old phone giving up on me and some keys not working now.

I doubt if it will be done a and dusted in one day and will drag on and on. Maybe Mary could carry her baggage?

Sarnia Sun 30-Aug-26 07:51:12

Brace yourselves Corrie fans. This week is being centred a lot around Jodie. Not my favourite character by a long way. I prefer Mary to her and that's saying something.
I did read that Jodie is being written out of Corrie as the actress has been involved in 'irreversible' behind the scenes disputes.
Seems like she hasn't had to act at being unpleasant.
