Have just watched the first 3 episodes and really enjoyed it. Brilliant writing and cast. Diane Morgan is one of the co-writers, aswell as starring in it.

We like Diane Morgan in this house, however, although we laughed aloud a few times, this isn't one of her best

Aveline Wed 19-Aug-26 13:48:29

But its not meant to be just 'funny'.

Fflaurie Wed 19-Aug-26 13:47:21

I think I’m alone in not finding it funny at all.

Aveline Wed 19-Aug-26 13:41:28

No point in only looking at the preview. Watch it all

TheWeirdoAgain60 Wed 19-Aug-26 13:15:50

I have just YouTube'd it. The preview. Won't be watching any more!

I much prefer Star Trek's Data! And RoboPets!

I caught up with the final 3 episodes last night, which I had missed. I am with the majority of viewers who enjoyed it, although there were some cringe worthy moments. I think Sue Johnston and the rest of the cast agreed to do it as they could appreciate the quality of the writing. I can understand why some people didn't think it was funny, but we're all different, so one programme can't please everyone. Diane Morgan is a great writer and actress.

Maremia

Saw the finale yesterday evening.
Each to their own.
I loved it.

Same here.

Aveline, that's actually a rude comment. I could see the poignant moments but because the rest was so dreadful they didn't commensate. The Royle Family, The Detectorists, This Country, The Office, Only Fools are all beautifully written and poignant. I have cried at all of them aswell as laughed. With this I just spent the episode thinking why has such an accomplished actress as Sue Johnstone agreed to this awful programme.

I loved it, especially the final episode, which was a thoroughly satisfactory conclusion.

After reading all the reviews I decided to give it a go. This has to be one of the most unfunny programmes I have ever watched. I can't believe the wonderful Sue Johnstone would associate with this. Each to their own but I like my comedies funny like Only Fools, Porridge, Are you being Served, George and Mildred, The Good Life, Car Share or poignant like The Royle Family, Butterflies, This Country and the Detectorists. This was neither, it was just drivel. I am happy people are enjoying it but I won't bother with a second episode.

Agree. I tried 3 times.

I didn’t think this was going to be “my thing” but I loved it - not much makes me laugh out loud these days! Very sorry when it ended.

Aveline Tue 18-Aug-26 13:55:27

Bukkie persevere. It's much more than just 'funny'. The poignancy may be too subtle for you?

I have watched it this evening. It's rather good and funny/poignant. The characters are hilarious. Stereotypes but none the worst for that.
Sue Johnson is perfect.
Thanks for pointing it out.

Saw the last episode tonight. So sorry it's over. Great acting all round of an excellent and unusual script.

Flopsey Fri 07-Aug-26 20:57:24

Thought it very funny and brilliantly acted by the cast
Already looking forward to the next series👍🏻

Oh I loved this. Such a gentle program with some great characters. Hope there will be a other series.😊

Just seen an advert for a robot pet called a Moflin that looks like a Guinea pig and reacts to your mood. Think if I couldn’t have a dog or a cat I’d be tempted to get one…

Aveline Sun 02-Aug-26 19:06:07

Having read this thread I decided to give it a go and I'm really enjoying it. Thanks for the heads up!

Lovetopaint037 Sat 01-Aug-26 11:46:07

Loved it. Just hope they make another series. Since seeing it I walk in a jerky manner and ask John, John, John if he wants anything etc etc. Linda is a better support than the hapless Michael. It’s fun and so different. Love DianeMorgan in everything she has done. Sue Johnson. Is great as well. It’s a winner.

MawsRosie Sat 01-Aug-26 06:25:55

Love it!
Like “Small Prophets” there’s a gentle but surreal element to the humour plus a lot of genuine pathos.
Sensitive performances by the main actors and real observation of some of the issues we face as we age, bereavement, relationships with adult children, physical incapacity, even decluttering and of course friendships.
Despite the thread of pathos, it is very, very perceptive - and funny!

I wasn’t too keen at first but it definitely grew on me. So much so that I persuaded DH he’d like it and am happily watching it again with him. smile

Having now watched 3 episodes and not enjoyed it at all, I’m obviously missing something. Shan’t bother with any more although I usually like most things with Sue Johnson in.

Mopsie Fri 31-Jul-26 22:10:56

Loved it! Funny, smart, poignant. All the good stuff! Some really funny moments. I would so have a robot carer! Loved the joke about Jeffrey returning his robot because they’d upgraded her IQ!! 😂😂
