Have just watched the first 3 episodes and really enjoyed it. Brilliant writing and cast. Diane Morgan is one of the co-writers, aswell as starring in it.

Great news…can’t wait!!

Greyduster Thu 27-Aug-26 16:40:01

I hope they tidy Michael up a bit - he made me want to scratch!!

Good news for those of us who enjoyed it - it's just been announced that it will be coming back for a second season!

Not sure how it will ‘move on’ for a second series though.

Unless it shows the set up between Sue and Linda, living with Michael and Melody.

Another vote for this insightful series from me. I enjoyed the wry humour and the way that it showed the necessity of courage in old age. As so many of us know.

George and Mildred was brilliant! I am happy people are enjoying Ann Droid and appreciate the serious message about loneliness it is highlighting but it isn't funny. Not a problem if it was advertised as a drama but it described as a comedy.

I find it very funny 🤷‍♀️ brilliantly observed characters.

I loved the camping trip episode 😆

The lovely little touch at the end with the “special” chocolate reward 😁

I have just YouTube'd it. The preview. Won't be watching any more!

I much prefer Star Trek's Data! And RoboPets!

Don't say you fancy Data? Now that really is weird......horses for courses, I suppose.

Calendargirl Wed 26-Aug-26 06:33:24

I didn’t fancy this from the trailers, thought it looked silly.

Nothing much on the other night, so gave it a go.

I really liked it. Seen 4 episodes so far. The first one made me cry, I thought it very poignant in parts.

Will watch the remaining two soon, half hour episodes suit me very well.

I love it.

Sue Johnston is easy to connect with as the mature Mum being manipulated by her worse-than-useless and utterly selfish son, Michael (Kevin from 'Motherland') who hires the re-programmed robot to look after his Mum because he can't be arsed.

But Linda, the robot, is more on Mum's side than he realizes.......great stuff!

Also, Sue Johnston plays her character marvellously realistically - grey hair, wrinkles and all. If this were made by Hollywood she would be styled with big hair, big teeth, the complexion of an 18 year old and Kim Kardashian's figure.

But Sue Johnston and Diane Morgan, who co-wrote this, have kept it well and truly grounded.

5 stars!

I agree about mrs browns boys I can’t watch it. G and m was funny in its day,.
Android grew on me . A few funny moments but mainly poignant.

Bukkie Mon 24-Aug-26 13:56:52

Mrs Brown's boys is the absolute worst programme, not sure how it keeps getting another series.

Aveline Mon 24-Aug-26 13:22:45

Maybe she likes 'Mrs Browns Boys?'Beyond my comprehension that such a programme should be made.

Chuckling at the idea that someone who enjoyed George and Mildred isn’t enjoying Ann Droid.
G&M was terrible !

Exactly Luckygirl13

It is both amusing and very sad in a quite profound way.

The widow was having her needs met by a robot in ways that her family and friends had failed to do - it highlighted the plight of so many lonely people.

Oh dear Bukkie obviously a different sense of chuckles to most of us on here
Like Grey-duster I was very sceptical at first and was sure it wasn’t for me . but after episode 1 I loved it and thought it was so clever and so humorous I was really chuckling and I so want an AnnDroid myself

I would love to have an AnnDroid for myself too. 🙂

Bukkie Sun 23-Aug-26 18:12:30

I am going to see the series through now and hold out for at least one laugh in the last 2 episodes.

Still persevering with this and I am up to episode 4. Smiled a couple of times, sighed a couple of times at heartfelt moments but yet to laugh at anything.

Greyduster

I didn’t think this was going to be “my thing” but I loved it - not much makes me laugh out loud these days! Very sorry when it ended.

Greyduster my husband has been laughing out loud as well!
It's one programme we can both enjoy together, usually we have very different tastes.

Am waiting for my next social gathering to break the ice with a stranger with small talk and asking ‘how much do you weigh?’😁

Aveline

But its not meant to be just 'funny'.

Absolutely.
