Clever scripting in Best Medicine - which is the US version of Doc Martin.

Martin Clunes appears as the Father of the US Doctor. Very similar to Doc Marten but with a very passable US accent. And some nice little nods to our Doc. Martin - telling patients to "Stop speaking!"

I forget he's in his 60's, he's still Man About the House to me.

I love watching him... brilliant! Was he in Man about the house? I don't remember that but I didn't really watch it until later repeats.

Was it Men Behaving Badly? Mand about the House was Robin Sullivan I think

HelterSkelter1 Thu 30-Jul-26 19:28:09

Whoops Richard O'Sullivan

Yes it was Man Behaving Badly of course. Senior moment there wink

But anyway, if you liked Doc Martin the US version is worth a watch. Best Medicine. Story lines are taken from the UK version, characters align.

It's slightly less nuanced than the UK version but they're catering for a different audience.

We’ve been enjoying that since the start, enjoying Meemaw from Young Sheldon in a different role.
But seeing Martin Clunes was a bonus!

I've just googled both actors ages. Martin Clunes is 64 and Josh Charles is 54!

Reminds me of when Sean Connery played Harrison Ford's dad in Indiana Jones - there was only a 12 year age gap.

He's also a brilliant straight actor. Manhunt sees him playing a real life detective charged with catching violent men like Levi Belfield.

I'm in the U.S. and Best Medicine ran last Fall and Winter. They stopped for the Summer and I'm hoping they'll have another season. There are things happening that I'd like to see resolved etc. This show is really worth watching.

I have never seen the British version but I am loving Best Medicine, the US version.

Yes, that was discussed upthread.

The second series is premiered on Fox in September. smile

We probably won't get it here in the UK for a bit of time, so enjoy! (But no spoilers 😉)

He was brilliant as Hugh Edwards too. Such a versatile actor!

He really is. I caught him on an old Would I Lie to You recently and he was really funny.

And just to make you all feel old - Men Behaving Badly was first screened 34 years ago. Eek!

Think he was in the film Excalibur, as Mordred.

I am also enjoying Best Medicine, and was really so delighted to see Martin Clunes turn up playing his father. I'm usually averse to American make-overs, but this seems to be finding it's own way. (I do notice the topic of health insurance never seems to rear it's ugly head.)

Hahaha, I saw Martin Clunes in our village one day. I did a double take. He is so unmistakeable. It was definitely him. Visiting a fellow actor from Cold Feet, another comedy series, Robert Bathurst who lives quite near. Also saw the Scottish actress from Ugly Betty.., plus Jonny Depp from Pirates of the Caribbean, so yes, the village seems to be popular with Actors?smile

I am enjoying Best Medicine also. It was good to see Martin Clunes in it. Good touch! 😀
