John Stapleton died in hospital this morning with his son and daughter in law at his bedside.

He was 79 and had Parkinson’s and then pneumonia.
He was on GB News just two weeks ago and gave such a lovely interview with his old colleague Penny Smith.

People will remember his wife Lynne Faulds Wood who was also a TV reporter. She died of bowel cancer.

They had just the one son, Nick and John told a lovely story years ago of how he took Nick to a big football match when he was in his early teens. They were walking in and someone called over “Alright John?” John said he replied he was great etc and carried on walking and his son said “Dad, you do know that was Noel Gallagher don’t you?” John said he knew his face but met so many famous people due to his job. His son thought it very cool that he recognised his Dad!

I remember John Stapleton well.
May he rest in peace.

Afraid I had to ask Google who Noel Gallagher is.

I liked him too. Rest in peace John. You will be missed and many people will have memories of you, and lovely Lynne.

His wife didn’t die of bowel cancer. She survived both that and skin cancer but died of a stroke in 2020 ( I just googled her because I didn’t remember her dying). Her campaign re the diagnosis of bowel cancer saved numerous lives.

I’ve just heard this - I was watching an Insta (I think) of him speaking about his PD only a few days ago. I liked him too.

RIP John.
I remember when he and his wife Lynne Faulds Wood presented Watch Dog, or a programme very similar, they were a lovely couple. And now their son Nick presents a programme revealing scammers on BBC1.
My thoughts are with the family and friends.
🙏🏾❤️

You’re correct.

My late Mum had bowel cancer twice and the first time was around the same time as LFW and I remember her doing so much for bowel cancer awareness.

Lovely man

I liked him and his wife who did so much to raise awareness.
Their son seems a lovely man too and is doing a fantastic job on the tv programme Scam interceptors

Sad to see such a nice man die but so relieved he did not suffer for too long

I remember him way, way, back doing Newsround.

Sorry - my mistake. It wasn't John Stapleton who did Newsround, but it was someone called John. Now I'll go round the bend trying to remember his surname.

He always wore nice jumpers.

John Craven presented Newsround. As far as I know, he is now in his eighties, alive and well and still on Countryfile.
John Stapleton always came across as a really nice, unassuming man. He was ideal as a presenter because he only spoke when necessary and let the guests have their say.

He was a very talented journalist as well as a TV presenter and I remember him and his wife Lynne Faulds Wood presenting Watchdog for a number of years too.

RIP John Stapleton

I hadn't realised the lovely Nick Stapleton from Scam Interceptors is their son.

I liked John and his wife, sad to lose them both. They have a good son.

His son Nick has inherited his talents as a TV presenter. They both spoke about his illness together a few months ago and I watched with great interest as I had a friend with Parkinsons who has since died. I love Nick's programmes. His dad must have been very proud of him as I'm sure Nick is proud of both his parents.
