New series starting soon, but I am watching the original John Le Carre series,

My goodness just that was worth the licence fee - utterly outstanding.

The first Night Manager series was so scary that I watched a lot of it through my fingers! Definitely not bedtime viewing for me but will catch up with it during the day.

Really looking forward to the second series, brilliant casting.

Greyduster Mon 17-Nov-25 07:48:07

Me too Sparklefizz. Who knew Hugh Laurie could be so utterly menacing.

I have my fingers crossed that the second series is as good, but I assume it will not be based - well loosely - on John Le Carre?

I re-watched the first episode of the original series last night.

Tom Hiddlestone was very attractive.

Olivia Colman looked very plain and frumpy, I know she was pregnant in real life, and they obviously had her sitting down and only top half showing much of the time, but still think another actress should have been drafted in.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 17-Nov-25 09:58:43

Oh no! I think plain and frumpy did the trick for undercover work. Who would suspect a very pregnant ordinarylooking woman eating ice cream!!

She was just right in the part. Spying isn’t about glamour, and this certainly wasn’t 007😊

I going to re-read Le Carre’s book, just to get a better feel as I actually preferred the series to the book first time around, but perhaps I’m doing it an injustice.

Perhaps you’re right.

I don’t care for Olivia Colman, think she has become a proper ‘lovey’, so that probably colours my judgement.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 17-Nov-25 11:10:10

Yes I also think that she has become a bit lovi-ish, which is a shame.

I've just skipped through this thread in case there are any spoilers! We have watched the first two episodes and we're hooked. I'm not a big fan of Olivia Colman but I can get over that as the story is so gripping. Hugh Laurie is a great baddie.

I am rewatching The Edge of Darkness. Brilliant. I saw it described as "TV perfection."It is certainly very watchable even though its 40 years old. (found on i-player )

Going to give that a go.

Yes we've started rewatching the Night Manager ready for the next series. I'd forgotten how menacing it was!

Can't wait for the new series

Greciangirl Tue 18-Nov-25 16:03:52

When was this shown on t.v. Please.
Anyone?
I would very much like to watch it.

MollyNew Tue 18-Nov-25 16:09:02

Amazingly, the first series was broadcast as long ago as 2016, according to Wikipedia.

Grannybags Tue 18-Nov-25 16:33:50

It’s on BBC iPlayer Greciangirl

Ilovedogs22 Tue 18-Nov-25 16:37:13

It's was on the BBC Greciangirl. It may still be on the IPlayer.
Highly recommended but a little-bit saucy! Also, quiet violent in parts. 😊

MollyNew Tue 18-Nov-25 17:04:34

It's still on iPlayer, we're going to watch Episode 3 tonight.

leeds22 Tue 18-Nov-25 17:12:31

Might re watch to first series. I'm no fan of Olivia Colman, for me she spoils anything she is in. Tim Hiddletston on the other hand .....

2507C0 Tue 18-Nov-25 23:43:11

I love Olivia Coleman.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 19-Nov-25 07:05:44

Just finished the first series last night.

Oh it was soooo good.

Doesn’t look as if Hugh Laurie will be in the next series. A better villain would be hard to find!!

When does the new series start?
Loved the first series, Tom Hollander, Hugh Laurie and Tom Hiddleston all wonderful actors.

With all the current criticism about the BBC Ican’t stop thinking about the value we get from our tv licence. Currently watching a programme about Scandinavia, there’s a programme about Turner tonight and I’ve got to watch the first series of The Night Manager. Binge watched Kingdom the other night and there’s a new series of Daddy Issues starting on Friday. Oh and there’s the Richard Burton film, too plus a few old documentaries about him.

I think the BBC trailer said the new series starts on New Years Day
