Voted by the watchers of GB News, one assumes?

Well done indeed.

Not really my cuppa, as Iโ€™m
Not keen on many of the presenters and donโ€™t think much shown on there is actually news, but Iโ€™m aware many people enjoy this show and that I would possibly enjoy some of the coverage and topics.

Iโ€™m afraid the Farage connection puts me off.

This is why I choose not to watch GB News:-

* Nigel Farage maintains deep, symbiotic ties with right-wing British and international media, heavily utilizing commercial relationships, high-profile broadcast roles, and paid advertising to amplify the Reform UK party.Key Media Connections:

GB News: Farage is a major stakeholder and host in this television network, backed by billionaire hedge-funder Paul Marshall. He has utilized his platform there for years to reach millions and push his political agenda.

DMG Media & News UK: Farage has established strong ties with leading centre-right papers. His party previously splurged over ยฃ1 million on advertising in The Mail, The Sun, and Daily Express, and he has attended summer parties held by News UK (owner of The Sun and The Times).

The Daily Telegraph: Farage maintains a recurring, paid monthly column.

Alternative & Social Platforms: He monetizes heavily on platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook. His broader political movement is deeply entwined with the "free speech" video platform Rumble, bolstered by financial connections to his biggest political donor.*

The UK has two entirely different media awards running basically in parallel.

If you want to know who has the most highly motivated, engaged fanbase - GB News' is the answer.

They operate a team of presenters for whom audience mobilization is a primary goal.
It is almost inevitable that they will win the TRIC Awards.

If you want to know who the media industry peers consider the benchmark for journalism, the answer is Sky News or the BBC at the RTS Awards

Good Morning Britain won the TRIC before GB News began completely dominating the vote. Previously the awards usually defaulted to the shows with the absolute largest daily mainstream audiences.

Exactly NS.

As far as I can see it isnโ€™t News Channel itโ€™s news programme.

Winners are decided by a public vote from a list of predetermined nominations within various categories.

ertonline.co.uk/news/tric-awards-2026-nominees-announced/

The nominees were:

9 โ€“ News

BBC Breakfast
GB News Breakfast
Good Morning Britain
ITV Evening News

I canโ€™t find any specific numbers about how many people vote other than for 2025:

This yearโ€™s winners, from much-loved personalities to standout shows, were decided by a million votes from the British public.

Considering we have a population of around 70 million of whom around 56 million are adults in 29 million households itโ€™s not hugely representative. Considering three of the four nominees were breakfast news, the voting is probably slanted toward people who donโ€™t have to get up and out to work in the morning including a large number of older viewers. We know this is the demographic which supports Reform more than any other and that GB News is the TV propaganda channel for Reform.

Nice graphic here about how Victor Orban bankrolled the network around Reform including Paul Marshallโ€™s media empire which owns GB News.
