Hi all
First time on the forum.Well I was asked to go back to work .I took volentary redundancy four years ago (am now 67) The Thursday befor Christmas my old company phoned me to see if I would go back to work.I could choose my own hours and whatever time I wished to start. To say I was surprised was an understatement. Anyway I went in to have a chat with thiem this week and am starting back to work next Monday.Just hope my little grey cells are up to it.Its only on a short term contract ,and that suits me fine. Has anyone or does anyone still work? do you get tired? Its a desk job so I will be sitting down for most of the time. Now the doubts are starting.
Must admit I bought myself a huge new cup to take in with me ,must have a cup of tea through the day.

Hi jennymf and welcome to gransnet, don't you have any doubts at all the Company must be sure of your worth for them to ask you back to work so have no doubts at all, many of us on GN work some full time I started up my own business not long ago after being retired twice and really enjoy it so go for it and enjoy.

Hi jennymf hope you enjoy GN

If you fancy it, and they want you, go for it! My husband is 67, works 'parttime', doing a fulfilling job and really enjoys it.

I, as a wife, mother, grandmother and daughter don't really have the option. confused

Hello jennymf

Until last March I was working as a Business Development Manager, reasonably high powered job, fair amount of travel etc, but I was made redundant. I need to work, as I have a mortgage etc, but haven't found anything so far.

Your Company must think well of you, or they wouldn't have offered you the position! When I started the job mentioned, it was after a previous redundancy and the main problem I had a first was really achey shoulders, as after a 3 month gap, I wasn't used to sitting at a desk for hours at a time!

Welcome jennymf. I retired with a voluntary redundancy package 3 years ago, and was asked if I wanted to go back in a consultancy role to assist with moving a group of staff to another area. Turned out the offer was to 'help' managers make staff cuts, so I told them never to contact me again. The ex-colleagues I know who retired and started workng again did so because they were either bored or needed more income. The ones who were bored are glad to be back at work, and the ones who needed the money say they found things were very dfferent after just a few weeks or months gap, which they found stressful.

The short term contract you have is ideal. It can be renewed for a few weeks at a time, and you can walk away with no obligations if you find you don't want to continue. Good luck smile

Hi There
Thanks for all the comments. They sent me through a contract today and all thats needed on both sides is a weeks notice ,so that suits me fine.I would hate the thought that going back would mean others loosing their jobs, but do not think this is the case. Any way I have packed a cup, a packet of biscuits and some tea bags Now ready towork.

If you want to work and you are capable of doing the job then go for it, you'll know when you are ready to leave, not everyone wants retirement, some people work into their 80s.

I left work at 62 yrs old and was ready to leave, I'd worked 2 years longer than I needed to because my husband was still working.
Had lots of things I wanted to do in retirement and it's the best decision I ever made, love being retired.

I'm still working full time and I'm 67. I think I may go on for another year or so.
