I agree feetlebaum I told my late DH that if it is possible to make contact he had to do so direct, not through someone else! There have been times I have felt his presence and I am sure he is watching over me BUT I don't share these experiences with others.

I did once tell one of his sisters and she now refuses to come into my house, so this lady needs to be made aware that whilst it is not something that worries her it can have a detrimental affect on others.

There are only two kinds of -psychic'. The charlatan or the deranged.

This woman sounds as though she is of the second type.

Those Fox sisters really started something, didn't they?

Elegran Wed 11-Dec-13 11:17:59

It would take the wind out of her sails if someone replied, "Oh no, your contact has it all wrong. My late mother/husband/friend contacted me direct yesterday and said the exact opposite! If I were you I would stop passing on all this duff information!"

It could also possibly be a symptom of a mental illness if she is seeing people that aren't there. A form of hallucination.
It also sounds vaguely threatening.
The people who work for her need to meet her manager discretely and say it is upsetting them and can she be asked to stop. If she can't stop then she has a problem and the manager needs to address it.
I agree it is form of religious belief and should be kept out of the work place - because there is a potential conflict with other people's belief-systems.

I agree with Elegran; this woman could cause an awful lot of emotional damage to someone sad.

I had an acquaintance who 'felt' presences. She was very 'spiritual' - an ex-Salvation Army person. She used to ring me and say 'I have had a Dorothy moment' (Dorothy being my late Mum who she had never met) and go on to tell me that she was fine and watching me etc..... I just went along with it, very much tongue in cheek, but had I had less of a sense of humour, it could have been quite disturbing. Luckily it wore off after a while. Strangely, for one so religious, she split up with her husband and took up with a very dour, but wealthy, ex SA officer, so they aren't all they are cracked up to be wink

Blimey! I would take the manager to one side and tell her that the person I can see sitting beside her thinks she is being a complete and utter nuisance and should stop such nonsense forthwith.

kittylester Wed 11-Dec-13 10:45:20

Made me smile too bags.

Kiora Wed 11-Dec-13 10:25:49

Thatbags you made me smile on a bleak day, I know it's getting serious but you made me smile british humour at its best

Charleygirl Wed 11-Dec-13 10:07:33

This should not be allowed to carry on. Her manager must put a stop to this nonsense NOW.

Elegran Wed 11-Dec-13 09:55:19

Bags! shock grin

Elegran Wed 11-Dec-13 09:54:18

If I had been that widow I would have blown her out of the water.

1) for accosting me with a message that she thinks is from my dear departed husband.

2) for assuming his name was Charles (thank God he was not. The poor woman could be frantic at the thought that maybe she was responsible for his death and he was being kind and forgiving about it.

3) for accusing me of maybe being responsible for someone else's death.

She is deranged. The manager should act.

thatbags Wed 11-Dec-13 09:50:03

Look just past her and say "He's behind you!"

kittylester Wed 11-Dec-13 09:44:27

The problem is that she sees it as being very helpful to us. She asked one person, a widow, whether she knew someone called Charles as he was very keen to let her know that he didn't blame her for his death. Luckily, her late husband wasn't called Charles!!

sunseeker Wed 11-Dec-13 09:39:35

If you have already spoken to her about this then it may be time to have a word with her manager.

Just because it is her sincerely held belief doesn't mean she should be imposing it on others. If she were a committed Christian and was preaching to everyone every day she would soon be told to stop.

Elegran Wed 11-Dec-13 09:38:54

Suggest that she silently asks the person to come into the next room and tell her instead, as the poor lass they are sitting next to will be too frightened to work if she is told directly, then that she writes down the message to give to the recipient in her lunch hour - when she can throw it in the bin without interrupting what she is supposed to be doing.

Or tell her that phone calls are not encouraged at work, so these communications are not wanted either, and would she please make sure that the senders only visit out of hours.

Or get the charity's doctor to check her out for a brain tumour - that is the current diagnosis for Joan of Arc's voices in the head.

kittylester Wed 11-Dec-13 09:30:55

Sorry, Jess, she does mean it - it's a sincerely held belief. She also does tarot card readings at work.

We have talked to her about not doing it but she says that she has to tell us if there is someone wanting to tell us something.

Kiora Wed 11-Dec-13 09:17:18

Tell her she will have to pay whoever sitting there a days wages. Or simply say what you've told us. That the young ones get frightened and this is not the ideal way to influence people and make friends. Do you think it's a bit of attention seeking? Is she lonely? I'm glad I'm not in your position I'm having enough stress with the living demanding things I'd draw the line at the dead adding their two pennith

JessM Wed 11-Dec-13 09:08:35

I meant was the manager meaning it seriously or is it some kind of weird jokey thing, when I said is it real. Sorry, need to wake up.

kittylester Wed 11-Dec-13 09:04:57

It's very real, jess The organisation is in the charity sector. She has been asked to stop as some of the younger ones find it quite scary!

JessM Wed 11-Dec-13 09:01:36

Is this real kitty ? Can you give us a clue about the type of organisation? Not the National Society for the Advancement of Spiritualism I assume.

Soutra Wed 11-Dec-13 08:59:29

Suggest she has more tonic with it?

kittylester Wed 11-Dec-13 08:54:54

Anyone have any ideas on how to dissuade a manager from telling the people she works with that they don't want to know who she can 'see' sitting next to them or what they are trying to impart.
