Job interview

I've got a job interview tomorrow for checkout assistant (every little helps) & I'm mega nervous already!

I've been a carer for my OH for the last 16yrs but now I'm on my own & due to the pension reforms I find myself having to look for work.

I'm so out of touch with all this & I never was any good at interviews in the past.

When I get anxious my mind tends to go blank & I struggle to think of any answers to questions I might be asked.

Has anyone got any tips or advice please?

Don't panic - a small error in the general scheme of things. I am sure others have done worse at the till.

I once went on a photoshoot for a media company and when I had finished I managed to erase the lot from the camera - it was a new camera - that's my excuse! Boy did I feel an idiot! I had to dash off and redo them all before it got dark. blush

Easily done posie....as one of my first bosses used to say...making mistakes are fine, as long as you learn by them. Mind you he'd give me a jolly good scowl if I made the same one again!

Well being Saturday it was busy as expected.

I made a few mistakes, the worst one Cancelling/voiding a customers WHOLE TROLLEY full of shopping by mistake. shock I was just trying to void 1 item that I'd double scanned by mistake. They had already packed most of it by this time as well.

Had to call line manager then had to unpack shopping & rescan the whole lot again. [very red face]

HildaW Wed 24-Jun-15 13:47:53

Good for you Posie...as long as you smile sweetly at the next one in the queue you will be fine!

Good luck posie, and keep smiling! If you make a mistake the customer won't mind as much if you're pleasant.
I've always enjoyed working with the public, most are lovely. smile

You'll be fine, posie. Just keep calm - sometimes the queues at the tills can seem daunting, but you'll soon get used to it.

I did a stint at Asda 40 years ago and still remember it as a good time in my life.

Had my induction day on Saturday which mainly consisted of watching videos then did 4hrs last night of checkout training & serving real customers!

I'm only working weekends so my next day of work is Saturday which is going to be a lot busier but I'm going to give it my best shot smile

I have just read this post Posie, I am so very pleased for you as I know you have had a hard time in the past. I am sure you will love it. Best wishes flowers

That is really good. Hopefully once there a few months you may be able to drop either the Saturday or Sunday although in theory you should be paid extra for those shifts and the extra dosh may come in useful.

Jomarie Thu 11-Jun-15 19:48:15

So pleased for you Posie - I agree, comfy shoes and pace yourself - 10hrs (give or take) is a really long shift but over and done with in one go and will make 3 hrs on Sunday seem like a walk in the park!!! Cancel all engagements (social or otherwise) on Monday grin and just chill smile

Well I survived it! It actually wasn't as bad as I was expecting.

It was a group interview, so 6 of us altogether. Apparently they've been holding interviews all last week & this week.

Started with filling in a form, then we had to answer about 5 questions in front of each other.

Then we had to work together to build a construction approx. 6ft tall with a flag on the top using only items on the table which was a pack of photo copier paper, a roll of selotape & pot of pencils.

Will have to wait now to see if I've been successful or not.
