Congratulations from me as well. What an achievement! Like many on here, I've never really known any other monarch - I was only 2 when our Queen came to the throne - and it would seem so very strange to have Prince Charles, or even Prince William, as our King. Even stranger to hear the word 'King' in our national anthem!

She still has a long way to go, though, to become the longest reigning monarch of all time. That crown is still held by Sobhuza II, King of Swaziland from 1899 to 1982, a total of 82 years, 254 days. Our dear Queen would have to live to around 108 to match that record

Congratulations indeed. (where is the crown emoticon GN?). Who else would devote their entire life ("be it long or short") to their country and to the detriment of their own personal and family life? She is truly a remarkable woman.

Now sitting back and waiting for all the anti Royal comments..............

Yes, as I get older I realise what a very good permanent fixture she has been. Certainly the backdrop of my life, the only monarch I have never known. I wasn't much of a royalist a few years ago, but of late I have come to appreciate the Queen more and more and I no longer think being a republic is preferable. I think the country wil bel bereft without her. Lets hope that she continues to reign for a few years yet.

Congratulations to Her Majesty. Glad the milestone is passed today or we would be overwhelmed with Wayne Rooney on the news.
