Hello all..... most of you know that I have/had been trying my best to start my own cleaning business and after not being successful finding any other jobs.Having had to throw the towel in on my cleaning venture due to lack of response I had to go back onto Jobseekers.

Been applying for various jobs and no luck nothing. Then! ASDA advertised (I'm I allowed to say ASD*)?

Managed to get through the questions (they were but tuff) received an email that I had been selected to go for group interview last Tuesday. Was told they would be in touch in next few days.

Couldn't bite my nails any further down so started on the end of the pens!!
Kept checking my emails and phone thinking I may miss a call or email.
Friday morning home phone rang!! didn't recognise the number but answered it! and............and.............!!!!

yesss! I had been chosen! and have to go for my induction on Wednesday!
I was the oldest there in the group interview, I was treat exactly the same as everyone else who seemed to be 25 and under.
The post is classed as seasonal, but I put down I could work any hours (but not nights) etc etc.

So yes there is life after 60! if only for seasonal it is a step forward. smile
thanks for all your support everyone smile

Are you being employed full time?

At least they are savvy enough to recognise that you will not be taking time off because you are pregnant, you are more likely to turn up on time on Mondays, not having clubbed the weekend away, drunk yourself into oblivion and been on too many highs because of your drug taking! (I sincerely hope!).

Please let us know how it goes.

Well done, hope you like the job, will you be wearing your Doc Martens? It's good that firms recognise the worth of the older person, isn't it? ?

thank you smile

At least at a checkout you are sitting down and can have a chat with customers if that is allowed there. I agree though that you have to be flexible because that is how you will be taken on as a full time member of the staff, hopefully with all the benefits going.

Good luck for tomorrow.

smile Charleygirl lady who rang said they think they are putting me on checkouts, but I did put on the form that I would be willing to work in any departments.

Many Congrats bikergran!
It's about time some good luck came your way!

Nelliemoser Tue 23-Aug-16 15:49:06

Well done Bikergran. I think ASDA have a policy about keeping older workers while they can still do the job.

There is a checkout operator in our local ASDA who is probably about 85 now. (He had his 80th with balloons etc)one day when I was there. He is a lovely man, very tall and genuinely friendly to customers He is so nice it's a pleasure to use his checkout.
A good committed older person might be a better bet than some youngsters.

Charleygirl Tue 23-Aug-16 15:44:46

Biker my only hope is that you are not on your feet all day long. Any chance of getting a job at the checkout? So pleased that you are now sorted.
