Interview for step up job- no confidence

My bullying unsupportive micromanager has affected my confidence and motivation.

I have an interview for a step up job which I'll attend but I usually get the jobs at interview.

I know I have the ability to do the job but lack experience. On paper it looks like I can do the job, but reality is different as Ive been held back.

The job is technical, so I can't bluff it. It will be obvious if I can't do it. I always have a slight doubt and lack in confidence anyway, but this boss has impacted on me. (I'm not the only person).

I suppose if worse comes to the worse I'll be sacked and wont put it on my CV.

Any tips?

It's a horrible feeling ineedamum. I have to interview /test for about 5 or 6 jobs before I'm offered one. It does knock your confidence. But once I get a job I do well, get great appraisals and generally thrive, not sure what that says for the recruitment process.
Don't get down, as you say the decision's out of your hands and you won't be back to commuting and lose your well-being and fitness. Commiserations from someone who's been there many times.

Thanks everybody. I failed the technical, no new job, feel relieved as it was probably too much for me.
I still feel a bit low as I don't like failing.

Sounds like you’ve nailed it! Great stuff! I guess you have to decide what’s best for you. I was always told by a great manager who was so supportive, that getting an interview is a great achievement and teaches you lots about the process, so right xx

It sounds good when you get your way. But I myself was on the verge of depression a couple of times. Getting rejected after you thought your interview was successful .. It's just demoralizing. However, my life experience told me that increasing wages and improving working conditions are most often possible only when changing jobs. And I have been going with this motto for many years) But this still does not prevent me from learning some new things for me, for example, about a resume - resumewritinglab.com/blog/top-resume-writing-services/ It is said that this really affects whether or not you get noticed to be invited to your first interview. By the way, I noticed that male recruiters generally do not use the stressful method of interviewing, unlike female hiring personnel.

Every time I have a job interview and feel unsure of my skills, I remind myself no prospective employer would give me a second of their time if they didnt think I have potential, therefore I would be a productive member

Good for you.
And good luck with the tests.

Thanks puzzled.

My job is technical, which I also don't feel confident in due to bully.
The next step is the technical test, hopefully it will be easy, but whatever happens I've done well.

You should be confident!
You have had first and second interview and passed the tests!
That's more than the competition.
They think that you are capable of doing the job, or wouldn't have taken you so far along the selection route!
believe in yourself.
This is your chance to do the job in such a way that suits the company and most importantly, YOU.
You will be in a position to make changes that will make the job better for you, and for those who work for you, and so for the company. This will make you more valuable to them

AND, the icing on the cake, you will be away from, possibly equal to; or Joy of of Joys, superior to your old unpleasant nit picking old boss!
Tomorrow is the first day of the better rest of your life!

GO FOR IT!

Something more suitable will come your way

Had the interview. I'm not sure I want the job even though it's a great opportunity. Being back in the office, commute and being around people is overwhelming.
I didnt even have any questions, i usually have lots. I dont think it was a good interview, but the best I could do for now. I dont want to do any work which is the real issue

Redhead56 Mon 07-Jun-21 22:40:12

timetogo2016 Mon 07-Jun-21 18:33:07

Your bullying unsuportve micromanager is worried he will loose you.
Therefore put your energy into the interview and show him what you are capable of.
Good luck ineedamum.

V3ra Mon 07-Jun-21 18:22:59

Congratulations so far! Now for the next step ?

ineedamum Mon 07-Jun-21 18:10:19

I have a second interview.

It's also overwhelming thinking of working in office after working from home. The commute etc as I've got really fit in lockdown.

But having a second interview is a confidence boost no matter what happens

ineedamum Fri 04-Jun-21 19:28:42

Thanks everybody.

Well it’s obvious you have first hand knowledge of bad management with your present micro manager. When being interviewed think about how you have been managed. When you are asked questions on how you might deal with a certain situation. You could put emphasis on how positive management will have a beneficial effect on the workforce. It will make you appear more confident than you feel and give a good impression. Do yourself proud it’s an opportunity you don’t want to miss.
