Short story competition

We're delighted to say we had a large volume of entries for our short story writing competition tied to the recent publication of Erotic Stories for Punjabi Widows by Balli Kaur Jaswal (a Gransnet book club choice for this coming Autumn) - and we very much enjoyed reading them all.

And the winner is...

Congratulations to Sarah Evans whose story, Skimming the Surface, will be appearing in the e-book of Erotic Stories For Punjabi Widows. Sarah also wins £500 worth of book tokens plus editorial feedback..

Sarah's story stood out for us among tough competition. All the judges were impressed, not only with the quality of the writing, but also with the way that Sarah portrayed the intergenerational relationship.

Balli Kaur Jaswal (author): This is a powerful and intimate story of a mother connecting with her daughter with patience, acceptance and trust.

Anna Power (agent): A beautifully observed and balanced story about a mother's deep connection with her young daughter.

Martha Ashby (editor): A thoughtful and moving story focusing on the connection between mother and child and a moment of stillness that leaves you reflective.
