When You Walked Back into My Life

when you walked

"I was ripping through this book. It’s the sort of addictive book you think you might be able to resist. But can’t." Evening Standard

A trained nurse and a marriage guidance counsellor, grandmother of two Hilary Boyd worked as a health journalist before her debut novel Thursdays in the Park spent six week as the UK's number one best seller. She was 61 years old at the time - and has since been credited with creating the "gran-lit"genre.

Her third novel, When You Walked Back into My Life, explores whether it's really possible to have a fairy tale ending with somebody you have *already* been in a relationship with.

Hilary explains that she was fascinated by the idea of couples who get back together after years apart: "The Internet, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn now makes this a most modern phenomenon. But can it ever work a second time around? Haven’t we changed, moved on, become different people?"

These are the questions that Hilary's protagonist Flora must ask herself.

Flora’s love affair with Fin McCrea was a whirlwind of fun and spontaneity - but after eight years together, she wanted to settle down and have children, and Fin vanished.

Life moved on and Flora’s world filled with other people, other cares - but the memory of Fin, and of what might have been, could never be completely erased.

When Fin suddenly reappears, claiming he's a changed man and that he wants her back, can Flora bring herself to trust him again? After all the heartbreak, is this a chance to put right the wrongs? Or a massive mistake?

Flora has some difficult decisions to make, as Hilary explains: "What you loved in someone at eighteen, you can still love at fifty-five. Or maybe not. Maybe you are only loving the memory. Flora has to decide whether to take the risk with Fin McCrea".
