A Christmas Lament, written at a time when much of the festive food was made at home.
I began in October to bottle and brew,
Now there’s not much time left but still so much to do!
The beer is too frothy, the wines looking murky
I’ve stuffed the cat and put out the turkey!
There’s cards to be written and presents to wrap (I’ve checked them again and decided they’re........... not very good)
There are halls to be decked and put lights on the tree
Who’s going to do it all?
You’ve guessed it, it’s me!
Yes, I know that it’s Christmas, good will to all men,
But I would like some help every now and again.
I’m not really complaining and I’m not one to shirk,
But Christmas for women means so much more work.
There’s some folk don’t like it, there’s some folk that do
So, Merry Christmas or Bah Humbug, I’ll leave it to you!
