Does anyone else feel, as they get out the Christmas decorations that they're only just put them away....

Need to buy about half a dozen pressies. But due to handbag being in car with DH in another city not getting done this week. I don't send cards and I am not here on xmas day. So that's it really. Got it down to a minimum and that is how I cope.
Hey its nice and warm in my house and I have plenty to eat. Poor devils in Syria on TV. And people fret about xmas. hmm
Oh I am going to sing some carols on Sunday!

I'm going food shopping with DD1 on Saturday. Christmas is at our house and Boxing Day at hers. The rest of the family are descending on us so we need a united front! I posted the last of the Christmas cards today but still haven't got the tree out of its box. You'd think living in the wilds of the fens we'd grow our own but I can't be bothered with all the mess anymore. Pudding and cake are made but I still need a bit of geeing up to reach the finishing post.

I have been in bed with flu all week . It has really knocked me out and I am desperately behind with shopping, cooking etc. must get myself gee'd up in the next day or so as have mountains to do and my mam and dad to see to, grandma, not to mention the vat return at work ( yuk) etc. oh dear can we postpone Christmas for a week or two ?

gillybob hope you're soon feeling better. I'm so often ill that I've just learned to accept that what I can do I will - and what I can't do I won't fret over. Although I'd be the first to admit it's not quite so stress free in fact as in my thinking!

I am feeling a bit better today thank you grannyactivist . I blame myself entirely for putting off having the flu vaccine when I was asked to have it. There was always something more pressing to do.

I agree that you shouldn't fret over what you can't do and focus on what you can do although much more difficult to put into practise !When I was first diagnosed with MS way back... I was determined to continue to do as much as I could whenever I am able. Someday's are better than others admittedly but I try to have a use it or lose it approach.

I'm putting the tree up on Sunday and then everything should be finished, the meat has all been ordered and delivered on 23rd by trusty butcher and all veg ordered from man who does farmers market I like to give the custom to local business's as much as I can.
The only headache I have is the wrapping of the presents they take forever and I spent and hour or two last night and it never made the pile look any less than when I started,I keep finding stuff I have bought though out the year and forgotten about.
All that wrapping for it all to be on the floor in about 30seconds hmm

Some of us are reluctant to ask for a helping hand from husbands and family. I know I am. I'm just preaching and not practising!

Can you do some of the shopping online? I get groceries delivered by ASDA. It makes life a lot easier.

A Christmas Lament, written at a time when much of the festive food was made at home.

I began in October to bottle and brew,
Now there’s not much time left but still so much to do!

The beer is too frothy, the wines looking murky
I’ve stuffed the cat and put out the turkey!

There’s cards to be written and presents to wrap (I’ve checked them again and decided they’re........... not very good)

There are halls to be decked and put lights on the tree
Who’s going to do it all?
You’ve guessed it, it’s me!

Yes, I know that it’s Christmas, good will to all men,
But I would like some help every now and again.

I’m not really complaining and I’m not one to shirk,
But Christmas for women means so much more work.

There’s some folk don’t like it, there’s some folk that do
So, Merry Christmas or Bah Humbug, I’ll leave it to you!

Like that, phoenix grin! I too, feel as if I've only just taken the tree and Christmas cards down. In fact I noticed when sticking a card on the living room door just now, that there's still a (tiny) bit of blu-tak left there since last year blush.
Every year I vow not to spend so much on presents but I just can't seem to help myself. Has anyone else done the same thing?

Anne58 Thu 13-Dec-12 13:01:29

No, I've really cut back, the grandchildren have got 2 presents each, my son and DIL know that things are tight this year, with me not working.
