When I was 16 I had a boyfriend, I was cooling a little but the straw that broke the camel's back was when he came clunking up our drive with a carrier bag full of horse brasses which he asked me to sew onto his plastic 'leather' jacket. I refused and the relationship ended within a week. In fact when he was due to call round mine a couple of days later I spent the whole of the afternoon and evening in the cinema and watched a movie 3 times round. He had left by the time I arrived home. Mum and Dad were not too happy with me.

When I was a student, aged about 20, I went out briefly with a rugby-player. I was invited to go and watch him playing for his team at an 'away match'. We sat together on the coach and as we approached our destination he handed me a small tin and asked me to look after it during the match. Being of a nosey disposition I asked him to reveal the contents. Yikes! End of relationship! It contained his dentures! Of course it was probably just a few teeth (I didn't open the tin), replacing some lost in pursuit of his beloved sport... Guess I should be ashamed of myself for being put off by his misfortune, but am afraid I found it a bit weird at that age standing on the touchline, cheering him on and clutching his tin of teeth.

I had a boyfriend who played rugby. I let him get on with it. The only time I had to turn up for a match as we were going on to somewhere else from the game, I spent the afternoon sat in the clubhouse reading.

I was totally smitten with a boy who lived near me in my teens. We sort of 'went out' for a while. My family were staunch catholics and so I was always taught to say my prayers. Every night I would pray 'please God let me marry (and say his name). Five or so years down the line I married - not him but a man with exactly the same name and it's not a very common name. hmm

KatyK what a co-incidence!The same name, that really is strange. They say that God works in mysterious ways [his wonders to behold] so you had your prayers answered.smile

I once had a BF who played hooker in the middle of the scrum. He used to turn up to take me out on a Saturday night but then fall asleep, slightly concussed, I thought, in front of the fire while I got on with my knitting. No, I did NOT marry that one.

roses - yes it is very odd. Like I said, I was brought up as a strict Catholic but I am no longer a 'believer'. However occasionally that 'coincidence' pops into my head and I begin to wonder........

My boyfriend and I parted because he didn't have a car!! - how shallow is that!! (However I did think he was pretty hot) Life went on.......until last November.....thanks to social networking we made contact again, after 53 years - he sent me a photo only to find that he is the image of my husband now - (even my husband didn't know it was himself!)
Strange or what?

Always used to try my christian name with their surname! Not that I wanted to marry any of them when I was that young.

I remember one in particular, a local student. We "went out" for a few months, then I finished with him (can'remember why now). A while later he asked me out to "try again", and treated me to the pictures. On the way home I told him I didn't think it would work out, he shouted "Well, that was a waste of three and ninepence!". So I took 3s 9d out of my purse (in as small change as possible) and threw it into the back of his car. Oh dear, he was a good catch, he had a (very old) car! How foolish I was. But then I wouldn't have met DH.

I dumped one BF when he tried to pick the putty out of my parents front window when I dumped him... what he intended doing once he had taken the window out I dont know. He still has my collection of LPs hmm never forgave him for that.

I am amazed that you can all remember past boyfriends and the reasons for giving them the heave-ho. With a very few exceptions, my past boyfriends have all merged into one composite.

Most of them have disappeared from conscious memory absent, it is just the couple or so who managed to last longer than a week or two. Oh I do sound ? can't think of an appropriate word (all very innocent in those days)
