I still live in one like that, petra.
Same happened to us, Coolgran.
However, I still have no idea what this thread is about.

CelticRose. If you lived in a country where the government were a bunch of crooked shysters, you would keep your money under the mattress. I have lived in one such country.

I wish we'd had our retirement money in the Bank of Mattress....under the mattress.... then we wouldn't have lost so much of it over the last few years when the bank was looking after it for us. There...

Eh? Now I am confused

WhiteCloud Sun 01-Mar-15 21:36:52

You should have formed the wording in your post better Celtic. Trending "In the News" forum is an OP about paying taxes.

rosequartz Sun 01-Mar-15 15:00:27

We have some old francs, dinars etc somewhere in a cupboard - does that count?

Only a couple of pounds' worth at best though.

Still confused

CelticRose said she'd just completed this survey before she started the thread, so I presumed it was to do with that - don't know whether there's a reference to 'mattress money' in it as I haven't done it myself!

I think Celtic is making a point about the black money not being presented to Inland Revenue(as recently mentioned in the news earlier this year) that needs to be addressed in order for us not to go the same way as the countries mentioned. Does anyone with Bank of Mattress have the right to vote, even! But who would know anyway. Who was it said, "the only two things guaranteed in life are taxes and death". Or something like that.

loopylou Sun 01-Mar-15 14:08:57

Me too please, despite re-reading it I'm completely confused!

Charleygirl Sun 01-Mar-15 14:01:33

Can I join the club?

ninathenana Sun 01-Mar-15 13:45:41

Ana I must be really thick, as I still haven't got a clue ! grin

janerowena Sun 01-Mar-15 00:02:16

It's really not a sensible thing to do, currencies change and notes become out of date. Banks change notes and get rid of smaller denominations to stop people hiding money I think.

I'm still confused!
But then I'm like Pooh!

Ana Sat 28-Feb-15 22:37:54

Not annoying, just perplexing, as no one knew what this thread was about until you explained! smile

CelticRose Sat 28-Feb-15 22:31:25

Thought it was me being unreasonable and missing a point. Not sure where to post. Please ignore - or ask Gnhq to remove if post is annoying.

CelticRose Sat 28-Feb-15 22:27:10

Oops. Do - finger tripped up. It could also be need stronger specs.

Ana Sat 28-Feb-15 22:26:05

Perhaps your post would have been better placed on the relevant thread, CelticRose?

tanith Sat 28-Feb-15 22:24:25

I think its us that are missing a point??? confused

CelticRose Sat 28-Feb-15 22:23:47

I had just completed the GN survey. Would someone using the Bank of Mattress be entitled to do complete this survey? Who would know anyway!

merlotgran Sat 28-Feb-15 22:22:15

confused Glad it's not just me.

Mishap Sat 28-Feb-15 22:16:11

And double confused!

tanith Sat 28-Feb-15 22:08:55

hmm

CelticRose Sat 28-Feb-15 21:51:42

The apparent downfall of Greece, Italy, Sicily, Spain. A mediterranean person with a business in UK and claiming pension and bennies for some years whilst owning a property in the land of his birth once told me he did not trust banks! As a person who has only ever PAYE'd and never had any other income, nor do I like throwing cash in charity buckets either, am I missing a point somewhere.
