What current day words drive you up the wall?

Saying "I mean" when they've oy just started the sentence. Well, you have to have said something first before you can mean something!
Woke - GRRRRRRRR, stupid saying!
Anythink, somethink - they end with G so pronounce the G!
Actually, this is a much over-used word these days!
Anything that is over-used in a chat or conversation like they can't think of another word to use instead of it!

An expression, not a word, but ‘Come see…’* instead of ‘Come and see…’ does irritate me. Most recently seen in an email from Whipsnade Zoo - ‘Come see our baby elephant!’
(But we’re going to take the Gdcs anyway.)

*I do know it’s from across the pond.

Languages change. They have since the dawn of man. By complaining about something that has always happened and will always happen really shows that a person is stuck in an old fashioned thought process.

I hate when a tragedy happens somewhere and the reporter says that the whole town is coming to terms with what had happened. How does he know, has he asked everyone ?

Yes Floradora9 and I hate it when they announce, for example, that 79% of the population believe or think or say something, based on a a question that hasn’t been put to anything like the whole population.

Outside ‘of’ - when the ‘of’ is completely redundant. E.g. as heard on R4 earlier, ‘outside of London’.

Shtrong and shtruggle - and other words beginning with ‘str’ - why can’t so many people pronounce a simple S any more?,

I could go on and on but really really bad is traffic news reporters that the English language appears to be in a sort of code especially the th sound. I have to shut my ears to it which of course defeats the object. Although it isn’t easily understood anyway

"Like" was a nice expression to begin with but now it's one of more annoying cliches.

I remember when I was young and I thought it was clever to speak the same cliches as my chums. I wonder why teachers of English usage don't despair.

Off of - I can't listen to Andy Williams - 'Can't take my eyes off of you'. This has annoyed me for decades

I do find it amusing when people mishear sayings e.g. from the geeko, wake up and smell the copy, reaper cushions etc - all can be found on social media!
