Where did you hide the bubblegum you weren't supposed to have...

...after you had chewed all the juice out of it?

There was a hole in the plasterboard on the landing wall. We used to put it in there. That old farmhouse that my parents rented for two years has been poshified since we left. I wonder if they found it.

Well you did say you were told chewing gum was a filthy habit.

And what about bubble gum? I spent many a happy hour as a child seeing how big I could make the bubble before it popped. You got a better result with two packets of gum. Other children would try to clap their hand over the bubble so you got a face full of sticky goo!

Incidentally, I was surprised to notice from various Scandanavian thriller progs that it seems to be alright to chew gum over there. Police Inspectors do it whilst behaving in an authoritative manner.

My mum chewed Beech Nut chewing gum! When I was a little girl, she always bought it....funnily enough, I can't really remember her chewing away at it! She must have done so in quite a ladylike manner! confused

Wasn`t Beech nut the cheapest of the chewing gums? That`s what my auntie used to buy me when I spent my school holidays with her. She didn`t like my mother, I think she thought she was getting one over on her by giving me chewing gum!

I think I remember Juicy Fruit chewing gum, but I would have been skelped (consult your resident Scot for translation) if they had caught me with bubble gum!

Skelping would have been the least of it if my mum had ever found out about the bubble-gum in the wall! I think I'll tell her about it during our big family gathering this summer, then I can hide behind my brothers when she goes berserk grin
