I am SO disappointed to hear you don't sad

glammanana Fri 15-Mar-13 14:32:53

Flickerty my DS1 has an old Saab and he woudn't change it for the world,I offered him my little car when I buy a new one but he has refused he loves his Saab.

annodomini Fri 15-Mar-13 14:35:12

Flickety I am familiar with the A34 - I'd be lucky to reach 50mph, far less maintain it. Even in my Ferrari.

FlicketyB Fri 15-Mar-13 14:56:19

In a way so are we sorry we do not own a Ferrari, think what we could sell it for!

Never seen a speed camera on the A34, not really needed, but they are constantly parked on the half mile stretch of road between our village and the next where, for about 400 yards you can increase your speed from 30 to 40 and down again. they are there 2 or 3 times a week, and have been for months. Traffic on this stretch of road is generally well within the speed limit so I cannot imagine why they are there, unless their presence is for other reasons, and the speed camera/regiustration recognition van is there as a cover for something else such as ... I am rather stuck to say what as drug dealing and white slave trafficking is no longer a joke.

Having a coffee break!

soop Fri 15-Mar-13 16:16:30

Frank you are a sweetie pie smile

Ella46 Fri 15-Mar-13 17:01:53

Lots of speed cameras on the part of the A34 near to me, and you can get your speed up to @50mph just before a footballer crashes into the back of your car!

grin

Ella46 Fri 15-Mar-13 17:02:39

The footballers are usually in cars too!

Ana Fri 15-Mar-13 17:16:04

Ferraris? grin

annodomini Fri 15-Mar-13 17:52:02

I know that part of the A34 - I think Mr Beckham once got caught by one of those cameras between Tesco and Sainsbury's. Funny thing about the A34. It disappears when it meets the M42 and reappears north of Oxford!
Ana, there's a good chance, when you see a Ferrari in North Cheshire, that there will be a footballer at the wheel.

Ana Fri 15-Mar-13 17:53:12

As I thought, anno....wink

I have to speak up for Rolls Royce. When I worked in Monaco I loved travelling back to England in my employer's Silver Ghost (I think that was the model). It was amazing how many doormen rushed to open the door at hotels. The seats were like big leather armchairs. On the other hand, his Lamborghina Espada was a nightmare - rock hard seat, very close to the floor, impossible to exit elegantly. I had to smile at the line in the song about Lucy Jordan - 'She would never drive through Paris in a sports car with the warm wind in her hair'. I could tell her that all she would get in her hair would be diesel fumes.
Now, I am very happy with my little Fiat Panda Climbing - I think it is the smallest 4 x 4 on the market.

HUNTERF Fri 15-Mar-13 23:42:16

Well, I made a selfish Rolls Royce driver reverse tonight.
He put his main beam on when passing some road works on my side of the road and I could go no further.
He got out and told me to reverse and I pointed out I had got priority.
He just called me an low class peasant.
I just stood my ground and after about 2 minutes he did back up.

Isn't it strange how these kinds of people actively pursue you Frank?

glammanana Sat 16-Mar-13 07:41:23

"low class peasant" didn't you tell him you have a London pension ? grin

Orca Sat 16-Mar-13 07:47:45

What an interesting life you lead Frank.

Orca Sat 16-Mar-13 07:50:08

PS
Do RR headlights act as some form of tractor beam? If he had turned them off could you then have gone further? hmm

HUNTERF Sat 16-Mar-13 08:20:26

Hi orca

It was the first time I have had a Rolls Royce main beam turned on to me when I have been facing it and you can not see anything so I had to stop.
I do not know if he did not realise I was in the road works area and it was a single lane where I was but I definitely had priority as he was on my side of the road.
What that driver did could have been dangerous as I could not see anything.
He was totally rude. I may be a peasant in relation to him but we are subject to the same laws.

Frank

glammanana Sat 16-Mar-13 09:02:54

This man may have been rude with regard to his motoring manners, but why do you think you may be a peasent in relation to him not everyone who drives a top of the range car is wealthy my darling dad drove a Rolls for many years and it was his choice of car,he wanted one when he was younger and realised his goal in life when he was 45 yrs old,he was by the way a Liverpool docker and worked hard for his luxuries.

Orca Sat 16-Mar-13 09:08:48

Hi Walter Frank

Did you say something to provoke him?

Orca

whenim64 Sat 16-Mar-13 09:10:46

I'm beginning to enjoy reading about Frank's quirky outlook on life grin]

HUNTERF Sat 16-Mar-13 09:26:57

Hi glammanana

The Rolls Royce was 62 registration so I assume he had it from new.
No I do not think all motorists who drive top of the range cars are rude.
I know somebody who had a Ford Escort and he then had 3 top of the range BMW'S and went back to a Fiesta for the final few years of his driving time.
He just said he had cars appropriate to his needs at the time.

Orca

I think I did provoke him by telling him to back up.
You can not just switch on your powerful main beam to stop another motorist.
I did slam on the brakes as I could not see anything and another motorist could have come through the back of my car or even worse I could have hit somebody crossing the road.

Frank

glammanana Sat 16-Mar-13 09:41:39

Just to make it clear I did not ask are all motorists who drive top of the range car's rude, the post says not everyone who drives a top of the range vechicle are wealthy.
Bored now am off to work for the day.grin

annodomini Sat 16-Mar-13 10:02:43

Could have been a chauffeur, Frank.

Galen Sat 16-Mar-13 10:18:20

Most likely someone with a London pension and who therefor does not need to consider oyhers!
