Ooh! Is that named after Teresa May? grin Oh no, she's a Conservative...

I still call the Spring Bank Holiday Whitsun. How out of date am I?

Instead of nabbing a Bank Holiday that already exists, why not just create another one like the labour government did with May Day. Sure to be more popular? grin

Codswallop!

Yeah – private member's bill on its second reading. Seems unlikely to happen but infinitely depressing that someone thought it was a good idea in the first place.

Not a hope!

Riverwalk Thu 23-Jan-14 21:01:52

It's sponsored by Peter Bonehead - might have guessed grin

Here is a link to the 38 Degrees campaign for people to sign.

Margaret Thatcher Day

There's a trending online petition against it which thousands have signed.

Also, there's another private member's bill to have it named Alan Turing Day. None of them will get past the second reading.

Is this before or after the Scottish referendum?

Agus Thu 23-Jan-14 20:54:30

Please tell me this is a joke!

There'll be blood on the carpet if that happens...

Riverwalk Thu 23-Jan-14 20:49:39

They wouldn't dare grin

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 23-Jan-14 20:40:38

Martin Luther King just might have done a bit more for humanity than Maggie. grin

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 23-Jan-14 20:39:02

Oh, as if!!! hmm

gangy5 Thu 23-Jan-14 20:37:28

Hope not - don't think she warrants it!!
During her reign she discouraged vocational classes in school - cookery for one. That's why the nation is getting fatter and iller!!

Ana Thu 23-Jan-14 20:19:06

Rubbish!

Riverwalk Thu 23-Jan-14 20:18:08

Rather like Martin Luther King Day in the US.

mrshat Thu 23-Jan-14 20:16:36

Why? What specific connection has MT to the August Bank Holiday? Just more nonsense IMHO.

absent Thu 23-Jan-14 20:14:39

I have heard a rumour that that the UK Government is planning to call the August Bank Holiday Margaret Thatcher Day. Does anyone know if this is true? What do people think about this?
