Today I am bored. This is actually a good sign as it means I am recovering from last week's chest problems as I now want to do things and not veg on settee any longer. I have plenty to do but it's all the wrong things! Don't want to tidy or do laundry or vacuum....need something a bit more fun and exciting today. What to do??

I bought a jigsaw at Christmas "Grandma's Garden" and it was lovely to sit and do it with my DS. Something to do with the DGC too if they are a little older.

I also do decoupage with decopatch and do up pieces of furniture that I find for the new house or do canvases for occassions like Mothers Day or birthdays. I then use lace and buttons also and it takes some time to look and buy either in craft shops or online. And not very expensive. They also do little animals or letters which could be done for DGC or their friends for parties etc.

I have bought a home magazine today as January is the worst month in my opinion. Get to Valentines and the year starts to take off more. So I will look through and find some new ideas for the house.

Nothing beats a pack of playing cards and you can play on your own too or little games like snap with DGC. Or older games with friends/family and of course, strip poker with the old man/girl, lol. See? Lots of fun.

I love watching both of my budgies, very entertaining, inside pet, don't need walking, can let out and teach tricks to, excellent company. Not much mess if you buy a cage skirt to catch seed/feathers. Lily and Graham told me to tell you this, smile

My best wishes to anyone down with illness or injury. It is not nice to be laid up for whatever reason but with a bit of looking after ourselves, we will be in top form soon for when the weather changes and we are soaking up the rays in our very beautiful flowery gardens, with a Pimms. grin

I think it's the time of year that makes everyone start up hobbies. We've sold our house and moved to a rented flat to give us time to find a new house. I'm too far away now to watch my grandchildren and my friend's toddler so I've been so bored. I've been making felt name banners for the children and now I have bought a sewing machine and I'm loving it. It's 43 yrs since I last used a sewing machine at school but it all came back to me. I've made patchwork cushions and a bag, I really want to make quilts but think I need more practice first. Hope everyone is back soon to full fitness.

I know what you mean about sewing Daffy, Beloved is the same. If a shirt has the temerity to loose a button the shirt is consigned to the bin.

Funny, re the sewing. I bought a dress on the sales that I love but the sleeves looked odd because there were a bit too long (for short sleeves). So I took my sewing machine out (had to dust it off), cleared the table (I don't have a dedicated spot to sew), took out everything I needed, set up the ironing board. Fixed the sleeves of my dress, great. Then I remembered the pile of clothes for darning and repairs that my son brought to me about 6 months ago (he likes getting things fixed and hanging on to things). So I did that. Then my daughter appeared with her "favourite dress in the world" - could I do some repairs to the seam, please?

It meant changing the thread top and bottom for every little task, as no two things were the same colour.

I've had the best time today. And so very relaxing and satisfying. Plus made other people happy smile

I was chatting to a friend the other day and she mentioned the '100 day cough'. I had not heard the expression before but it is accurate. I don't go anywhere without a few Soothers in my pocket as I find they help. (No, I do not have shares in the company but just find them effective.)

I always think January is a month for hibernation. I had the cold/catarrh but seem to have recovered and we have been out a couple of times this week.

Her OH probably wouldn't have noticed she hadn't knitted anything, unless he was expecting a new jumper!

rosequartz Fri 23-Jan-15 20:32:36

That was in reply to janer.

DH and I have had a bad cold for a week and it has floored us. Should get some shopping today but all I want to do is pull on old comfy bottoms and vegetate. It's 9am and other thought of shower and hair/makeup feels like climbing a mountain.
We just want to lie on the sofa and watch something vaguely interesting.
Yesterday we watched Birds of a Feather, and Benidorm. These used to be funny.... but we thought they'd lost their edge and instead found a serious case of over acting.

Should add that DH is very good at sound effects .. as in....
Oh dear...this is awful.....aaaaggghhhh - every bone hurts.....OMG.. ooooooh...eeeeeeeeh.....

So, we are nearly bored. Don't feel quite up to the effort of being bored.

Thanks for the warning, Harrigran. I'm not on BP medication and have carefully perused the contra-indications. Lemsip doesn't seem to have done me any harm - though nothing seems to be doing much good. The bugs have now hit my sinuses, so almost everything is aching. Sorry everyone. I'm in a 'poor me' mood!

anno envy I wanted to be taken to Rome during Feb half term week, but Dd convinced me to wait till April, when "the sun will be shining". hmm I have been looking longingly at live webcams, so I might have seen you! smile

I've heard the 100 day thing mentioned as well...certainly feels like it. I'm def on the mend though as boredom levels are rising. It's not that I haven't got anything to do, just can't get motivated to do them yet!

harrigran Sat 24-Jan-15 16:17:36

anno, I read the literature in the hope that I could take something to help but ended up with just hot blackcurrant juice and paracetamol. Both DH and I had sinusitis, earache and even toothache and it has been a long couple of weeks. DH now has a cold sore and the skin on my nose has broken down due to all the nose blowing. No sympathy from rest of family as everybody has had it. Thank goodness for computers and GN smile

The paint arrived yesterday and so instead of the bedside tables I've decided to do the dining room table and 8 chairs!!!

Half a chair done so far. hmm

The doc advised not to take any cough sweets or mixture as it's 'good to cough'.
