Little Mix at the Brits

Jack Whitehall described Little Mix live act as ‘raunchy’ and joked that - quote - " dads watching at home nationwide would be grasping for their sofa’s cushions following the girl group’s performance". For this he has been slated by the press about their performance(quite right in my mind). Now I know some might say why do people feel the need to only focus on how “hot” performances are and not the talent but - forgive me if I am wrong - Aren't Little Mix a pop girl band and therefore their audience are young, impressionable girls pre-teen and young teenagers. In which case, don't Little Mix have a 'duty' to make sure their act cannot be described as being raunchy or sexual in any way?

I think all pop music and videos are absolutely revolting and inappropriate these days.
I watch any of it, and if I had my way it would all be banned.

Oh, I DON'T watch any of it. blush

They can't help having morals of an ally cat !

MissAdventure Thu 21-Feb-19 18:20:51

All the dance moves seem to involve spreading their legs wide so we can see what they've had for breakfast.
I'm usually very broad minded, but it really does make me cross!

All that pouting and twerking! God I’m getting old.
But I agree MissA as when I’ve been in bars with a music video it’s practically pornographic!

MissAdventure Thu 21-Feb-19 18:27:06

I phoned my daughter up, having seen a video of Madonna and Justin Timberlake.
It was disgusting!
It was only 3 o'clock in the afternoon! shock

I think the general idea is that they wiggle their a***s around to distract your attention from the fact that they have no talent. Very few of them could carry a tune in a basket these days.

That is my instinctive reaction too. Young women presenting themselves as sexual beings first, dancers & singers second. Not a role model I would want young girls to admire or emulate.

My DGD went to see Little Mix. Ticket given as a Xmas gift by an adult neighbour who was going with her girlfriends. DGD had a great time and the experience of her first big music event was fun. She howls with laughter (now aged 13) as she tries to emulate their dance moves and jokes about how weird it all is. She is perfectly au fait with the facts of life but does not seem to associate their stage behaviour with real sexual activity/behaviour. She seems to consider them a bit unreal.. like cartoons.

Urmstongran Thu 21-Feb-19 18:42:27

Makes ‘Pan’s People’ look like nuns. ?

DGD(9) is here for a few days of half term - she's a big fan of Little Mix and let out a squeal of delight when they won an award. I sat through my first Brit Awards since forever, until 22.00 when DGD fell asleep!

Like so many groups in the last decades they're 'manufactured' and haven't slogged around the clubs earning a crust; need a huge backing entourage to give them stage presence; and most of all it's certain they were miming!

The raunchiness seems to be their selling point.

Hugh Jackman was great - a real pro.

PECS Thu 21-Feb-19 18:47:09

Urmstongran too true! grin

Riverwalk Thu 21-Feb-19 18:52:17

No raunchiness today - I took her to see 'Phantom of the Opera' - far more wholesome! That's also not my scene but grandmas have to make sacrifices!

PECS Thu 21-Feb-19 19:11:27

Riverwalk Lucky girl. Tris to theatres are great. We certainly do make sacrifices ..I had to sit through a totally sentimental dog story film "A Dog's Journey Home" on Tuesday with my other DGD. Her sister would not have watched it just in case it was too sad!

I never know why girls are so keen on the girl groups. When I was that age I just wanted to see the boys! I do remember the lovely dresses Cilla used to wear in the 60s. No prancing around in her knickers for her.

I let my daughter listen to their songs but not watch them.

They look a state and there is no reason to be spreading themselves open like that. It isn't dancing, it isn't entertaining its just gross.

Beau Thu 21-Feb-19 21:20:04

They're all at it now although I find it disgusting too. I occasionslly watch old Top of the Pops on BBC4 and it's quite a shock to see how properly female singers were dressed even relatively recently. If anything it's the male singers then who look ridiculously 'try hard' at times. Heaven knows when it all turned into pornography for the ladies only whilst men just went baggier ?

Beau Thu 21-Feb-19 21:20:30

*occasionally

MissAdventure Thu 21-Feb-19 22:53:29

I really think these kinds of videos should at least have an adult or over 15 rating on them.
It sends totally the wrong message about young people respecting themselves. (Or old people, in Madonna's case!)

harrigran Fri 22-Feb-19 10:40:08

Little mix ? they are not even nice to look at, stripping down to next to nothing is not a good look. Thankfully I don't have to suffer them as GDs have better taste.

megan123 Fri 22-Feb-19 10:48:03

Agree with you MissAdventure.
I think they look disgusting and the wrong kind of message is being sent to youngsters!

ninathenana Fri 22-Feb-19 13:13:42

I didn't see them performing at the Brits but a photo of them in the press the next day was enough.
Ridiculous outfits, just about covering the essentials.
Yes, I know it's not just them.

Eloethan Fri 22-Feb-19 15:40:22

I rather like Little Mix and their dancing but I do agree that it is not a very suitable example to set for little girls and boys.

Mycatisahacker Fri 22-Feb-19 15:51:30

I think Mel C said much the same adding ‘I was in a tracksuit for goodness sake’

I think it’s sad they have to do this because actually they are quite good singers and performers.

Mind you back in the day me and my friend decided to become Mormons because We wanted to marry Donnie! Not much call for that in 70s brum! grin
