Harry’s dilemma

Now, I can take or leave the royal family, but I can see that it might be difficult for Harry to have tea with Donald Trump next week, given that he called Meghan “nasty” in an interview with the Sun. Does he go and accord Trump some degree of politeness commensurate with his position as President of The US, can he shake his hand and engage in small talk like he would with any other visiting head of state, or does he treat him to a frosty silence, or turn his back on him, or not go at all and risk a diplomatic incident?

I wonder if they would know the difference between that, and a bottle of Aldi’s Torro Loco at under £4 a bottle ?

Gonegirl Tue 04-Jun-19 22:26:36

I think they might. grin

Well Berry Bros do a case of 6 for £3.9k
It pays to shop around, it seems.
Every little helps!

I expect that the good stuff is just used for the ‘toasts’ and there will have been a range of middle priced wines available.
Should they only have been served cheap plonk and beans on toast?
State banquets always push the boat out, did anybody mind when Reagan was here?

Aldi's Torro Loco as well as their even cheaper Grapevine Merlot must run in my veins. How I'd love to do a blindfold wine taste so long as somebody else is paying.

I bet I'd fail!! grin

one of which was a Lafite Rosthchilde 1990 which, according to Wine Searcher, has an average retail price of £9,360, per bottle”
Probably costs that now but in 1990, when it was 'laid down' it would have cost much less.

Wouldn't it be awful if, having kept it all that time, it ended up corked shock

You’re living up to your name now Merlot wine ?

lemongrove Ronald Reagan never made a State Visit to the UK, although he did go riding with the Queen in Windsor Great Park. The only US Presidents who have been invited for State Visits are George W. Bush, Barack Obama and Donald Trump.

I'm not happy with paying any of those prices Paddyann. It's disgusting. I'm not happy with any state banquets.
As for Harrys "dilemma." Here's a real dilemma. My friend waited one and a half hours for an emergency ambulance Sunday 3.30am. Her husband was having a heart attack. Should she have got in the car and driven to hospital at the first sign? That's a real dilemma.

Wonder why the wine is being reported following this state banquet

gillybob Wed 05-Jun-19 09:08:13

Probably so we can all be suitable disgusted at the price Annie grin

Anniebach Wed 05-Jun-19 09:11:01

yes gilly If the prices are correct ?

lemongrove Wed 05-Jun-19 09:44:03

Thank you absent.....it was President Bush I was thinking of.

lemongrove Wed 05-Jun-19 09:47:05

Annie and gilly grin
Yes, the wine was £60 a bottle, or was it £1,600 or possibly
£6,00 or even 6,000,000? ( Diane Abbot will know.)

Callistemon Wed 05-Jun-19 13:08:24

lemongrove grin

I was thinking I wouldn't have minded waiting on and clearing up any leftover bottles, but then again, I am so clumsy someone's dinner would have ended up in their lap.

gillybob Wed 05-Jun-19 13:25:31

Well DT is teetotal so I wonder who guzzled all that wine. My money's on Charlie, he's looking very red in the face lately . wink

Callistemon Wed 05-Jun-19 13:29:57

I didn't know that about DT gillybob - how interesting, not what I would have thought.

I assumed some of his tweets could have been made after a glass or two but obviously not!

gillybob Wed 05-Jun-19 14:43:59

I think DT made a conscious decision never to drink alcohol following the death of his brother who was an alcoholic .

Callistemon Wed 05-Jun-19 20:29:23

I didn't know that.
That is very understandable

lemongrove Wed 05-Jun-19 21:46:10

I did know that, but can you imagine if he drank.....what sort of comments would he be tweeting then, the mind boggles.
