Evening all,

This thought came to me just now, on the sofa, in my usual position, legs crossed and tucked up, can't remember ever seeing my mother sitting like this!

Will let you know when I get there

Bellanonna Tue 29-Oct-19 17:40:39

Well I actually probably AM old (80 next birthday) but as long as I keep kidding myself I’m not old, then .... I’m not old.

Callistemon Tue 29-Oct-19 17:16:27

As long as I can touch my toes I'm not old

There are other things I can no longer do but I can still do that!
And yoga

Greyduster Tue 29-Oct-19 16:16:19

From, not firms!!

Greyduster Tue 29-Oct-19 16:15:56

As long as I can wrestle a five pound rainbow trout to the net firms standing start, I don’t feel old! Getting up off your knees after you’ve released it back into the water is another matter......?

I can still do a handstand - am in my seventies.

Dee1012 Tue 29-Oct-19 15:12:47

I felt much better and younger when my friend's grandchild asked if I could do somersaults...and I did!

Curlywhirly Tue 29-Oct-19 15:08:06

As long as I can still jump onto the kitchen base units in order to reach something in the kitchen wall units!

Mollyplop Tue 29-Oct-19 14:42:08

As long as I can ride and look after my ponies I'm not old.

Bridgeit Wed 16-Oct-19 15:16:14

As long as I can dance ( well jig around to a favourite tune ?for even 1 minute ) I won’t be old ?

JessK Wed 16-Oct-19 13:12:13

As long as I can remember all my PIN numbers without having to write them down...

Witzend Wed 16-Oct-19 10:38:20

As long as I can still run upstairs (maybe not after a long and very busy day though - esp. if it's been a Gdcs-care day.)

Nonnie Tue 15-Oct-19 10:22:50

Oh Dragon I must have always been old, never been able to do that!

I heard of some research that said how fast you walk at the age of 40 indicates how you will grow old. I am hanging on to that as I walk fast all the time which drives DH up the wall. He only walks fast when he needs to. If I want to I can make research appropriate to me whether it actually is or not grin

I can still run downstairs - that makes me feel young!

Lovetopaint037 Tue 15-Oct-19 10:00:09

Having read all these posts I have decided that I AM old. However, I can still walk to the shops, travel on buses and trains.

Being able to answer most of the questions with my local pub quiz means I'm not old yet . Unfortunately, one lady in a rival quiz team, who used to be one of the best brains in the pub, is succumbing to dementia and that is sad to see. Also, being able to complete sudoku and crosswords and still attend to my very large garden and touch the floor bending forward with straight legs even though I've had a knee replacement.

I will be old when I can't manage my own financial matters, wash and dress myself, drive or live independently.

Parsley3 Fri 11-Oct-19 18:54:17

I don’t mind being old because numerically that is what I am.
Physically, I hope to be able to continue to go to the gym and yoga classes for a while yet.
Mentally, now. I do try to learn new things but progress is slow. That is when I begin to feel my age.

Drum1234 Fri 11-Oct-19 18:43:52

I'll know I'm old when I can no longer learn lines for plays at my dramatic society.

M0nica Fri 11-Oct-19 18:03:10

I became old at 60 because I was two thirds of the way through life, given that we are heading to an average life span of 90 years.

I am now in my mid 70s. I do pilates and Tai chi and can lie on my back and swing my legs over my head so that they touch the ground beyond my head . Doing that does not change the fact that I am in last third of my life so factually I am old.

Gonegirl Fri 11-Oct-19 17:08:16

try this

Remember to walk at your usual gait.

Bellanonna Fri 11-Oct-19 17:06:46

Oh that’s very hard Nonnie. We do that at pilates. I’m afraid I usually cheat and keep one eye open.

Davida1968 Fri 11-Oct-19 16:32:03

As long as I can do my Pilates class, I'm not old..... (But then I think that "old" is always at least twenty years older than I am.)

Nonnie Fri 11-Oct-19 16:31:18

Something else, I put my socks on standing up and not holding onto anything. I think that is good but not sure if my wobbling means I will soon have to sit down!

If you can do the following you must be young - stand on one leg in a corner and close you eyes. Best to put one finger on each wall before you close eyes or you will fall over. Then take your fingers away. It is much harder than you think!

Nonnie Fri 11-Oct-19 16:28:19

EllanVannin Fri 11-Oct-19 10:35:38 me too and I can still do sit-ups easily. Can't touch my toes but I never could.

I think that as long as I can still take care of the garden I will be happy.

MiniMoon Fri 11-Oct-19 16:04:43

As long as I can go for a walk, and find myself up Coniston Old Man, I'm not old!

Just spent three days looking after four grandchildren. I hadn't time to feel old ??
