Watching the rugby this morning , memories flooded back

1969/70 the S.A. Rugby tour , the anti apartheid demonstrations at the matches, we failed but we certainly tried.

And now I am watching a S.A. Team with a black South African Captain.

For that reason alone I’m pleased SA won.
That said I was rooting for England!

Yes, shame about England. We could have done with something to lift our spirits!!

EllanVannin Sat 02-Nov-19 11:27:15

We did well to reach as far as we did so there's got to be some pride on that score.

EllanVannin Sat 02-Nov-19 11:29:43

The England team didn't play to their full potential knowing that they had the world's best to play against.

I'm drowning my sorrows!

Yes, EllenVannin, you did very well to get so far, but unfortunately only one can win. Anniebach, I still feel a sense of satisfaction when I buy the lovely South African fruit after many years of boycotting it!

Sorry to go off at a tangent but Harry at the rugby looks the most relaxed and happy and full of fun that he has looked for months, despite the fact that England lost.

Anniebach Sat 02-Nov-19 12:26:43

Wheniwasyourage my younger daughter reminded me this
morning , when Mandela was released , she asked ‘can we eat their fruit now’

NotTooOld Sat 02-Nov-19 17:50:28

Sparkle - I thought that! She's let him off the leash for the day.

Sparklefizz Sat 02-Nov-19 18:05:07

NotTooOld Exactly !!!! grin

Also going off at a tangent... yes we can enjoy lovely SA fruit and wine now.
I also remember well buying a case Chilean red wine when Pinochet was no longer in power.

Wheniwasyourage Tue 05-Nov-19 16:56:57

Yes, the co-op sells Fair Trade Chilean and South African wine, so you get double enjoyment!

Wheniwasyourage Tue 05-Nov-19 16:57:44

Sorry, Co-op, not co-op. Why is it that when you don't preview your post there is always an error?

Annie couple of weeks ago,
I watched a documentary with Gareth Edwards.

I watched on BBC iplayer
