Anyone keeping these from yester year, I was given both as a very young girl and would like to cash them in and give the amount to grandchildren, has anyone either used a online site or had them valued by a reputable jeweller

I've never done it but I'd go to a reputable jeweller.

You should get about £500 for the two of them but it would be worth having them valued.

I have a half sovereign given to me when I was born by my maternal grandfather. Some years ago I had it put in a frame type of holder which secures it without damage and is suspended from a heavy gold bracelet.

I love wearing it as a memory of my grandfather and would never sell it.

We all hold different views, not right, not wrong, just different.

That reminds me ... I bought 21 gold sovereigns @ £50 each for my daughter's 21st bday. ( I was married to her father then and yes, he was a highly paid professional). Didn't realise they are worth £250 each. I retained them because I didn't want her losing them. I think it's about time I gave them to her ....she probably needs the money now. She is divorced and her older son is hoping to go to University next year . Every penny will count.
Thanks for jogging my memory Trendynannie.
