Supermarket Substitutions

I am expecting a supermarket delivery today. This morning I received an email listing the things they won't be delivering (no toilet rolls - what a surprise) but also their substitutions. I rather hopefully ordered some handwash - they have none so are sending.....................an exfoliating mitt!

At least that wasn't instead of the toilet paper!

I await my Tuesday delivery with interest... I went online to check it yesterday and 10 of the 30 items are now unavailable, though strangely not the pack of toilet rolls. I’ve added some more items, but anything that arrives will be a bonus.

Apparently I’d exceeded the maximum item limit on carrots, so I should be receiving 3, not 5. Hope they’re big ones!

At least it will scrub you hands clean Oldwoman70!
I now tick all the boxes for ‘no substitute required’ after my order for a ‘Foil Turkey roasting tray’ turned out to be a very large and heavy pot Lasagne Dish!
They also used to send out all manor of flavours of Soft cheese, when the plain one that l had ordered two large tubs of was needed to make a Raspberry and White Chocolate Cheesecake. I don’t think that it would have quite been the same made with one pot of the Garlic and Herb variety, and another one of Smoked Salmon and Dil!

My best substitution, but not recently, was ladies panty liners instead of cat litter tray liners. My cat would not have been impressed and neither was I!

Maggiemaybe you and I should get together because I only need one (large) and you can have the remainder!

I finally had a delivery on Friday after I couldn't book my usual one. Half the items missing substitutions poor but can't be fussy. Instead of antibacterial laundry rinse they sent fabric softener, well same difference! Disappointed with Sainsbury's for only putting aside one hour a week opening time. Do older people really get up that early and go shopping? confused

I suspect that as time goes on, a barter system would be useful?

Panty liners are unavailable now, Charleygirl. How many am I bid for the one fine carrot? grin

They sent me two very large packs of cheese instead of the two small ones I had ordered, at no extra cost. So I'll be eating a lot of cheese, - instead of the bread, potatoes etc. etc. which were "unavailable".

My daughter ordered mushrooms. She got one

Maggiemaybe, I ordered 4 carrots and only got 3! I thought the limit of 3 was just for packaged items.9

Well, my Tesco delivery arrived last night, and with most items in it, so I’m feeling blessed today. I’m not convinced though that there really was no suitable alternative available, for my two bottles of red wine. Time to take stock of that collection of random dusty bottles in the corner of the kitchen. At least I’ll get to find out what those assorted liquors from the far flung corners of Europe actually taste like.

I’m awash with carrots. I changed the maximum three individual ones to a polybag and got six! Anyone in need just pm me your address and I’ll pop one in the post. grin

Six carrots, I mean, not six polybags! I may be fortunate, but I’m not a carrot magnate.
