Humerous comments about government members

Various members of the government have been making a fist of things in the daily briefings. Below are some comments I though amusing

Raab and Hancock - both about as substantial as a fun size Milky Way

Gove is the spiv's spiv

If Gove and Johnson had a battle of lies, who would win?

Please add any amusing comments that you've read.

Brilliant, NotSpaghetti!

Callistemon Yes, I do live in France, but I am English/British and am very sad to see what has happened to the country over the past decade. The British people deserve more than they received during that time and now the situation is being made worse by the present crisis.

As regards my statements about Johnson, Gove and Raab, I was quoting some of the comments attached to a newspaper column that I happen to find amusing and that I think are relevant. They are pertinent to the ministers and not to the current situation. Would you have written the same, had I been writing about a different subject - say Brexit? Somehow I doubt it.

Fair enough, you thought the comments were humorous, the majority of replies did not.
End of.

I have no idea what you mean by asking me if I would have written the same were you talking about Brexit
somehow I doubt it
Whatever that means.

I don't think your unfunny thread is going down too well, do you?
Perhaps time for you to ask to have it pulled?

Stay safe in France.

Notspaghetti That was funny - excruciating to listen to and an agonisingly accurate picture of the leader of a great nation completely out of his depth, but funny.

I think this is quite funny. Dominic Raab licks his finger whilst making a speech. Does he want a week off like Boris? www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8169397/Dominic-Raab-raises-eyebrows-LICKS-finger-stands-sick-Boris-Johnson.html

Callistemon Fri 03-Apr-20 10:01:48

I don't think that's funny - someone should point out to him what he's doing, it must be an unconscious habit.
Like my friend who went food shopping with disposable gloves and mask then forgot and scratched her face with gloves still on. She realised what she had done afterwards.

Under normal circumstances such things might be humorous but when it is a matter of life and death, perhaps passing it on to a vulnerable person, I can't see anything funny in this thread.

People who find it funny must have a different sense of humour than me, when people are dying.

trisher Fri 03-Apr-20 10:08:15

Callistemon you don't find it funny I do. Maybe you think it is somehow more virtuous to lose your sense of humour because ofthe situation . I don't. Laughter is good for us. It raises your immunity levels and makes you feel better. The holier than thou posts on this thread do nothing for anybody.

MawB Fri 03-Apr-20 10:14:39

Now we’re getting there. The thought police have decided that if we don’t find something “funny” we are being “holier than thou”
I am not alone in failing to discern any wit or humour in the original post but that has not stopped me laughing out loud, as they say, at many of the hilarious memes doing the rounds on the Internet.
Your point of view, Trisher does not entitle you to any moral high ground, it is precisely that - a point of view.
Before you counter with, nor does mine, I fully accept that.
But IMO any half-baked end of the pier show YOP trainee comedian could almost certainly have come up with something more amusing, even humorous.

trisher Fri 03-Apr-20 10:36:18

Then post something funny MawB and raise people's spirits instead of just criticising and pulling things down. The OP asks for amusing things.

Evoha16 Fri 03-Apr-20 10:45:33

Hello Carrie - and how is Dilyn?

MawB Fri 03-Apr-20 10:47:36

I reserve the right to comment as and when I see fit Trisher - I have contributed many funny/amusing/ lighthearted posts over the years, but allow me to choose when and what I post - surely that is not too much to ask?

Callistemon Fri 03-Apr-20 10:50:27

Don't you worry about me, trisher, DH and I have been roaring with laughter at some of the truly funny jokes and videos which have been sent to us by friends and family since this lockdown began and which we have shared.

The thing is, they are not tinged with spite, but we have laughed more than usual because, despite the tragedies, the real worries about relatives on the front line, humour at its best has been doing the rounds.

This OP is like a variation on a song:

99 Lead Balloons

My stepsister lives in France but her printer packed up so she was stuffed. Harangued by a gendarme for not having the right documentation. Even with her permission slip it seems she can only leave her home once every few weeks. Fine if you can afford to stock up but not so good for those on a low fixed income.

THERE IS NO PERFECT SYSTEM JUST HUMAN BEINGS TRYING TO DEAL WITH AN UNPRECEDENTED SITUATION.

The jokes thread was great and did an excellent job of keeping my mind off the situation.

Callistemon Fri 03-Apr-20 10:51:31

There are some great threads on here trisher
Unfortunately, I think the consensus is that this is not one of them

trisher Fri 03-Apr-20 10:58:30

Then make it one Callistemon or is there some personal vendetta against the OP or a reluctance to take the piss out of the government going on? Because I can't see any reason for not lightening up and simply posting something funny

Callistemon Fri 03-Apr-20 11:00:55

Not personal, I don't know the OP

Just very very unfunny

I see no reason to contribute anything amusing on this unpleasant thread, why would I?
As I said, there are some very humorous threads on here.
Perhaps you missed them

NotSpaghetti I've just found the time to watch your youtube link. I hadn't heard of Michael Spicer before and found him very funny. Much more outrageous than my comments. I shall look for more by him.
