Good Morning Saturday

Good Morning Everyone,
Its dark, but looks cold outside here in Brackley this morning.
This will be the first Saturday, for a long time where the stay safe and at home option will apply.
I maybe would have a Chinese Take Away, but will decline until the temperatures rise a little.
I think the Jet Stream is slightly to the west of the UK, allowing the cold air to come in from the east .
Take care,
Mick

My best giggle of the day so far ...

Oh gee, after all that I've just heard the darned thing click into life ! What's the matter with me ? It comes to something when your reduced to listening out for the motor running on your fridge-freezer. What a carry-on ! I blame Covid.

Thanks EV!

Cold and sunny here in North Lancs. Earlier it was snowing heavily-big white fluffy flakes. Very pretty but we had to walk on the road for our exercise.

Thanks Marydoll. have to admit I just don't recognise the scene - left Newton Mearns about 35 years ago. Your view looks lovely though.

Beechnut Sat 02-Jan-21 13:42:41

I like your arrangement for cards too GrannySomerset. I put ones from close family near to where I sit in the evenings.

Marydoll Sat 02-Jan-21 13:42:28

Wrong side of the River(s). wink

Taichinan Sat 02-Jan-21 13:37:06

Had you in Balloch for a moment there Marydoll but now I`ve lost you again!

Taichinan Sat 02-Jan-21 13:34:19

I rather like that idea for card arrangement Grannysomerset - not at all mad!

Marydoll Sat 02-Jan-21 13:26:45

DH was getting impatient with me and I was risking life and limb out on the road, avoiding the socially undistanced, trying to get a good photo!
I think any quiet walks are off for the time being!

Beechnut, so glad to know we are neighbours!!! wink

Beechnut Sat 02-Jan-21 13:15:09

Marydoll

*Gwen*, I was going to post a picture, but the road sign and county boundary sign, totally gives my location away! wink

So I have cropped it. Ben Lomond is to the left of the photo, just behind the trees! You can see the snow on the top of the Kilpatrick Hills away in the distance.

I recognise that pylon Marydoll ?

Mapleleaf Sat 02-Jan-21 12:59:18

Beautiful blue sky in that photo, marydoll. It's all change here since I posted this morning - gone is the lovely blue sky and frosty ground, to be replaced by huge flakes of snow falling heavily and settling. I just got back from shopping as it was starting, which was lucky.

Jaxjacky Sat 02-Jan-21 12:44:41

Glorious view Marydoll

Late this morning but as DH elected to have a lie in I took advantage of him not being there to “help” and dismantled the tree and other small decorations, now in the garage awaiting visit next week of wonderful cleaner to climb up and put the boxes away. Have left the cards up for a little longer because they give real pleasure. Much to the amusement and mockery of the family (who of course haven’t seen them this year) I group the cards by theme - nativity on the piano, Christmas trees on the China cabinet, assorted birds on a table and the rest on the book cases - snow scenes together, cartoon type together, etc. Quite mad, apparently!

Struggling a bit today after trying to be cheerful over the festive season. Guess we all feel much the same. Signs of spring will help, though.

Good morning everyone from South Manchester. Late this morning! Can’t believe it’s almost noon! Like you BlueSapphire I didn’t wake till 9:30am
?

I’m blaming it on the malt whiskies I shared yesterday afternoon with my stepfather. We enjoyed a tasting session, small amounts of Speyside and finishing up with a slightly bigger dram of ‘Talisker Storm’. Oakey and smokey. Very nice!

Himself wants to watch the Rangers v Celtic game at 12:30pm. Then he will ring his Glaswegian pal in Malaga to discuss the match afterwards.

I’m meeting daughter and granddaughter in the square in half an hour. Takeaway hot chocolate, a walk and a chat. Granddaughter will be 4y old at the end of this month. Now that I cannot believe! She’s bring her new dolly in the buggy. Cute.

Wishing everyone the best Saturday possible. Special thoughts to all with anxieties and worries. Lovely photos on here today, thank you for sharing. Keep safe everyone that’s the main thing.

Good morning (just) everyone.
A quick hello from a cold but bright Surrey. I will go back and read all your messages later, its been a busy morning with phone calls and other hullabloo!
Stay safe all.

Taichinan Sat 02-Jan-21 11:39:58

Good morning everyone from a sunny Angus coast where it is positively Baltic. I just can't seem to get warm at all. Still, the sun is beautiful to look at. I wrapped up like an Eskimo yesterday and walked round the garden. Would you believe the daffodils have poked their pretty little noses through the frozen earth! The first harbingers of Spring! I also saw light still in the sky at 5pm - what joy!
A lovely photo of your DGD looking towards Mt Rushmore, Bella. How small the world is with modern technology - you must have felt almost as if you were there with them!
I am sensing a lot of loneliness through the posts today with which I can sympathise whole-heartedly. The first lockdown came with a spirit of community and "we're all in this together" but this time we're just all jaded. I was lucky to see my son at Christmas, and maybe it's the anti-climax to that which is hitting hard. So lots of hugs to those of us who need them. The loss of a loved one is much more keenly felt at times such as these. ??
Stay safe everyone, stay away from icy roads and pavements and practise those smiles in the mirror. ??????

Gwenisgreat1 Sat 02-Jan-21 11:38:34

Good Morning all from chilly Harrogate, I spied a few large snowflakes passing the window, so think we will have a bit more later on.
Bellasnana your picture is lovely. It was years when I last visited Malta, and I loved it!! Scentia cutting up curtains reminds me when I was small, I wanted a pretty blouse and my mother would not buy one fore me, so I cut up a nightie of hers to make a blouse (which didn't fit). I was in so much trouble!!!
Might make a start clearing my Xmas cards and making notes of the messages with them, otherwise nothing really planned.

Funnily enough Marydoll I had pictured you living in Clarkston, Eastwood or Giffnock but you would have great difficulty seeing Loch Lomond from there!!

Oh well there are lots of large white things dropping from the sky just now, might just inhibit any attempts of going walking this pm

Keep well folks, chin up - finger up to last year!!

Good morning GN. It’s bright and freezing cold here. The frost looks pretty but it may be too slippy underfoot for a walk today. Another day hand stitching face masks may be on the cards.

Somebody directed me to a wonderful YouTube channel yesterday called Din Life. The owner is a hand sewer and there are some lovely ideas for small projects. I’m looking forward to trying a few. Stay safe and warm all.

Good Morning All x.
Bright and sunny but doesn't feel that cold,. no frost/ ice or anything just some dampness.

I've got a terrible feeling that my fridge/freezer has given up the ghost. For some unknown reason while doing my first cup of tea earlier and on getting the milk out of the fridge it seemed to be silent. I stood still to listen for the motor running and couldn't hear anything.

Then I maneouvered it slightly to jiggle it a bit and nothing. Although the light inside works and everything is cold, with freezer food solid, I didn't feel that it was working. There's no sign of de-frosting.

That's all I want ! I don't know what prompted me to be concerned about it really. Anyway it's a bit late in the day to do anything if it has died on me.

Typical start to the New Year where I'm concerned. (rolls eyes) If it has gone caput I'll get D to collect the frozen food then I'll have to get a replacement on Monday. What a pest.

This has set me back about an hour, fiddling and listening for the motor humming, plus I was later with the crumpets.
Could have been worse, like last week grin.

Oh gee, after all that I've just heard the darned thing click into life ! What's the matter with me ? It comes to something when your reduced to listening out for the motor running on your fridge-freezer. What a carry-on ! I blame Covid.

I'm so sorry for all this especially when others aren't so grand, my problem's obviously going potty in my old age.

Hope you feel a bit better today Harrigran, stay on the bland diet, not that you'll feel like much else anyway. flowers

-the sun's cracking the flags here, it's lovely, which reminds me of what a couple of posters have said about evenings noticeably drawing out. They are too.

Enjoy your day everyone whatever you do and take care underfoot if it's icy. Stay safe and well and thoughts to Gilly for a better New Year xx

Good morning Mick and everyone from a very overcast Lueneburg, unfortunately no snow. I do love gransnet, it`s so comforting. I had a visit yesterday from DDIL, with Partner and DGD. Otherwise I am not having visitors, so it was very nice. I do miss not beeing able to visit my sons and families in England. Hopefully all this is behind us soon. Luckily we have the internet to keep in touch and I watch a lot of British TV.
Take care and keep well.

Morning all from a bright and frosty South Notts. I'll just tootle about today, knitting and maybe a bit of baking. It's too cold to garden.
Very pretty dress Scentia your DH had better keep an eye on his shirts! Due to my patchwork some of DH's shirts may have reached a premature end.
Stay safe everyone and hope today brings some comfort to those with illness or worries.

Good morning all from a crisp sunny day here in Glasgow. What a difference some sunshine makes. The garden is sparkling as the sun lights up the frost.

You have just reminded me Maw, must do the cat’s worming treatment today then, back to housework duties as the holiday??, is over.

Grammaretto ? Just wish we lived closer and could continue the blether we had when we met up in Glasgow. Unbelievably almost a year ago now. One of these days we will be arranging our next meet up. ?

Best wishes to all for a pleasant day.

Maggiemaybe Sat 02-Jan-21 10:36:38

Good morning all from a white West Yorkshire. DH has just got back from town and reported that none of the traders have turned up at our small market today, so I’ll be adding the fresh stuff to the Sainsburys order later. That and writing up the 2021 calendar (with birthdays and anniversaries, not things to do!) will be my important jobs of the day. grin

I doubt I’ll be going out unless the pavements clear. At least we’ve got a good view to look out at - we’ll throw the window open for a stiff breeze and imagine we’re out there! I’ll be working on the cryptic crossword too, BlueSapphire, though I’ll pass on the rugby. I do have a keen interest in the football, but only because I’m a highly competitive Fantasy Football manager.

Have the best day you can, everyone.
