Undoubtedly disliked by people because of its political bias, I think. Doesn't every newspaper gave one? I used to take the DM every Saturday simply because I really liked the supplement. Haven't had one since March.

Like Kim, I used to buy the DM for the supplements and the crosswords but haven't bought it since March. I didn't take any notice of it's political leanings

It’s not real journalism. It just gathers stuff off the internet and puts it into quotation marks so that it can’t be sued. You can see two completely opposite bits of information in separate articles on the same page, both presented as “fact”.

I don’t like the emotive language either, designed to stir up trouble. But they’re not alone in that.

The Daily Mail lost any credibility for me when it had the pictures of the judges on the front cover with the headline "Enemies of the People".

Its online version has an article today complaining that Prince Harry isn't acting like Brigadier Prosser .

I think the Mail is better than the Sun or the Mirror. You have to make sure you don't take it all too seriously though. Some of the comments people make about the articles are disgusting though and so derogatory I don't think they should be printed.

It has always been very right wing and famously supported Adolf Hitler in the 1930s. There is an archive photo of Rothermere proudly shaking Hitler’s hand. I read a number of digital news sources and subscribe to The Independent’s daily Inside Politics.

It does amuse me that a Gransnetter who posts links to Daily Mail articles references the film ‘Tea With Mussolini” to imply other posters are right wing.

Presumably she thinks paying a visit to Hitler is not as pro-fascist as having tea with Mussolini.

Fanously lacking in facts. I recommend the i, a great little (but serious paper) at an incredibly low cost.

Apart from political bias, the biggest issue is that the research is inadequate, and the paper prints articles designed to sell copies, it lacks integrity. For a good insight, read the Wikipedia entry, extract below:

I look at the Mail online every day because it's hot to trot with breaking news.

I consider myself savvy enough to know which reports to ignore and which to read. I also like some of the regular columnists like Jan Moir.

I'm not afraid to post links for others to read if I think they're appropriate. They can always ignore them,

littleannie I see it ( anti DM) as mainly intellectual snobbery. It’s sensational style reporting, but you can take that with a pinch of salt.
When we did have a newspaper delivered, years and years ago, it was The Times as there were some good columnists and no sensational reporting, but many people do enjoy reading the DM or The Express as they want a paper they can easily access topical news stories quickly.
Nobody should be ‘put down’ because of their newspaper choice.

I only read the local Liverpool Echo as it's down to earth about real people and real lives with none of your plastic " celebrities " thrown in to fill the spaces. Probably more Labour orientated as there aren't many " hard-up " people who vote Conservative in Liverpool.

The newspaper gives the proper facts without the need to gloss over anything and in the letters page people say what they think without the sensationalism other newspapers are famed for.

Its political stance, certainly. Rabidly right wing, not to mention its Hitler supporting roots. But also the nature of the writing. It is sensationalist and comic-like in places.

I don't share the political bias of The Times but it is at least real journalism, whereas The Mail is gutter press.

The only thing I believe in ANY newspaper is the price at the top of the front page!

I don’t take any paper but the ‘I’ is the only one I have any respect for and would buy if I was going on a journey etc

I'm sorry to bring politics into this but it seems so relevant right now. This is the front page of the Scottish Mail on Sunday today saying that the SNP are "too slow" on vaccinations, when Scotland is in truth above the UK average for the proportion of people vaccinated so far. "Too slow" in inverted commas of course, so that as a previous poster commented, they can't be sued.

The story is actually that if we don't have enough supplies, then we'll fall behind, (doh!) and that GPs aren't being involved in the same way as they are in England. To be fair, this isn't the only paper leading with this headline. However, its politically motivated and very inflammatory. This is why people don't like the Mail.

What never ceases to amaze me is the number of Gransnetters who profess to despise the Daily Mail yet say they read it online and often quote from it so must avidly scour it end to end.

It bemuses me but at the same time it is rather amusing.
