‘Read all abaht it’ ... the suspect in the murder case. Why is so much being disclosed❓

His name, age, photograph, details of his two girls and his Ukrainian wife and mother in law are in all the newspapers.

Usually, the only details we would be privy to at this stage (he’s in custody not even charged yet) would be along the lines of ‘a 48y old man from Deal in Kent was arrested last night in connection with the murder of 33y old Sarah Everard who went missing last Wednesday’.

Today I read he attended hospital with a serious head injury and was later released back into custody. Also that he exposed himself 3 days before being arrested at a fast-food restaurant and the 2 officers involved in examining that are under investigation themselves.

So much information. It seems unprecedented. What on earth is going on here? How come lawyers for either the suspect or the Met Police haven’t complained about the press? I find it all very worrying on many levels. Anyone with thoughts on it all?

I m am very concerned with what they have found as they have not identified her yet and yesterday had divers arrive surely that only points to one thing

They have now identified the body. It is Sarah Everard. 118 women and girls have been murdered by men in the past year.

Yes indeed Gill53 we have to acknowledge that two families have been devastated by this heinous crime. I was thinking earlier of the 2 little girls, both junior school age, caught up in all this now. Their world will have been turned upside down. It’s upsetting to think about it all.

Yes indeed - such a nice expression of compassion in a dreadful situation. I keep also thinking about how hard it must be for the parents to have to have your grief such public property.Everything being turned over and exposed. I remember some of the dreadful things the press did to Millie Dowler’s parents - I won’t repeat them on here but they were looking for skeletons in the various family cupboards. And we should be under no illusions, if anything negative came up about this young woman, it would be all over the press in an instant. I just find it so sad when it’s just ordinary people who get caught up in extraordinary events through no fault of their own.

I agree with you Urmostongran, what have his family got to do with this? They too are innocent parties. My initial thoughts are that this chap has had some massive breakdown when you take into consideration the alleged exposure acts too. No comfort to the family of the victim of course, but tragic all round.

That’s what I thought too, this behaviour seems to have come on very quickly and be out of character, according to what little I have read.So many people devastated by the results of course, children, wife, parents sisters, brothers, grandparents and friends too.

No you have made Gill four years younger?

Urmstongran Fri 12-Mar-21 16:06:15

Oops!
Have I just added 4 years to your age?
?

Green Party Peer Baroness Jones calls for ban on men being out after dark. She's labelling all men as monsters.

I would assume she is calling for this simply as a way of highlighting the ridiculousness of the police telling women to be careful out. It is not the fault of women that men attack them.

I would have thought that a police officer accused of exposing himself in/near a takeaway food outlet would normally result in suspension pending an investigation. Warrant card and fire arms would be surrendered.

I’m guessing that this is why it’s been referred to the police watchdog

The Guardian breaking news:
The human remains have been confirmed to be Sarah Everard.

RIP dear girl.

Sarnia Fri 12-Mar-21 13:43:25

The suspect is also being questioned about indecent exposure 4 days previous to Sarah's disappearance. The 2 police officers with him at the time are also being asked about the incident. The report did not say whether the 3 were in uniform but surely something of this nature should have been reported by one or both of these policemen to their senior officers. You wonder if correct procedure has been followed otherwise the suspect may not have been in Sarah's vicinity a few days later.

Is a curfew for women also a nonsense or is that perfectly o.k?

Well you know women, bring it on themselves etc etc

Galaxy Fri 12-Mar-21 11:19:46

But men are very rarely told where to walk or even how far to walk as I have already seen on this forum today.

There are more violent crimes against men than women.

Firecracker123 Fri 12-Mar-21 11:11:27

I don't think so many people buy newspapers now they read them online or catch up with news items on YouTube or if they have TV Licence live on the BBC. I used to love reading the Sunday papers years ago before social media (News of the World, The Sunday People) all the so called scandals and titillations.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 12-Mar-21 11:04:25

And don’ t think that the law will change anything.

Remember the Leveson enquiry? Well those recommendations came to nothing didn’t they?

Whitewavemark2 Fri 12-Mar-21 10:44:52

????

Right. Then yes we know what the media is like. Last year it was trashing the BLM folk, the year before the ME Too folk, in between the young couple who decided to follow their own star.
Then of course the Milly Dowler (sp?) phone hacking and many others.
Ordinary people’s lives have in many cases been devastated by
reports - often untrue- about them. Wealthy people can sue, but that isn’t open for most of us.

If you object to the way they behave don’t buy the paper. If you continue to purchase the paper then you get precisely what you deserve.

tickingbird Fri 12-Mar-21 10:42:35

Most men aren’t out attacking women. Too many are but to call for a curfew for men is a nonsense.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 12-Mar-21 10:37:52

Not sure what you mean- sorry to be dim?

suziewoozie Fri 12-Mar-21 10:37:01

Aaaggghhhh does NOT tick those boxes

suziewoozie Fri 12-Mar-21 10:36:20

The OP speaks as if this is unprecedented to disclose details of a suspect under investigation.

That is wrong.

It is an acceptable process to release details of a suspect for a number of reasons. Amongst other reasons

1. To help with an investigation.

2. To encourage others who have been harmed in some way by the person under investigation..

The details being released to the media are meticulously recorded for future reference and open to public access.

The media coverage in this case does tick those boxes

Whitewavemark2 Fri 12-Mar-21 10:34:22

How the media behaves is of course a different matter.
