Oh yes, Hi-de-Hi is another one that’s kept well.

DH and myself try not to be Howard and Hilda. (Ever Decreasing Circles.)
If we find we have the same colour jeans and tops on, we go and change into something else!

There used to be a couple we called Howard and Hilda in our road.

Rising Damp
Til death us do part
Steptoe & Son

Audi10 Fri 15-Apr-22 15:42:17

Oh I forgot about Till Death Us Do Part! My grandads fav! The things Alf Garnett used to say! I felt so sorry for his wife ?

Grannybags Fri 15-Apr-22 15:47:11

Wouldn't be allowed now Audi10!

GillT57 Fri 15-Apr-22 15:48:15

The only one I find funny at the moment is Still Game.

sodapop Fri 15-Apr-22 15:52:04

I liked Bread as well ixion " she's a tart" grin
Ever decreasing Circles - another Peter Egan fan
Yes Minister
Sorry - "language Timothy"

So many good comedies remembered on here, I don't know of any good sitcoms on at the moment although I quite like Lee Mack. Not Going Out is a bit dated now.

Boz Fri 15-Apr-22 15:52:57

Wasn't it Howard and Heather?

Grandmabatty Fri 15-Apr-22 15:59:45

No, definitely Howard and Hilda. It's on the drama channel at five o'clock weekday evenings

Hi everyone, I am brand new on here and hoping it’s ok to join in.
Just wanted to add Dinner Ladies, Victoria Wood was so clever and her observations so succinct.
Cracks me up watching the cast trying to get their lines out with straight faces.

Ailidh Fri 15-Apr-22 16:09:57

dinnerladies
Are you being served?
Dad's Army
To the manor born
Keeping up appearances
Waiting for God
Porridge
Yes, Minister/Prime Minister
Bread
The Royle Family

Not all of them have worn well. I used to love Bread but have for years wondered why a bunch of scammers was meant to be funny. At least with the Royle Family they were fairly feckless but at least Barb had a job.

Dinnerladies was a slow burn for me: the first series I was almost annoyed at the simplistic, old-fashioned slop it appeared to be. In series two the penny dropped, and I loved it. I have it on constant repeat on catch up.

NanOf8Girls Fri 15-Apr-22 16:10:19

Robin's Nest, Rising Damp and Steptoe and Son. Loved them!

Hi! Crossed posts with my praise of dinnerladies!!

MissAdventure Fri 15-Apr-22 16:14:28

I used to like Brush Strokes.
Only fools and horses, of course.
Men behaving badly, nearest and dearest.
I love still game, too.
Rising damp, I could go on and fill up the thread.

Ailidh Fri 15-Apr-22 16:14:47

Oo, yes to Everdecreasing Circles. Also The Brittas Empire.

Always struck me that the "funny people" at the centre of them and Appearances were really unhappy characters.....

MissAdventure Fri 15-Apr-22 16:16:04

The Royle Family.
Father Ted.

MissAdventure Fri 15-Apr-22 16:27:31

Ooh, Sorry was good, too. smile

Bridie22 Fri 15-Apr-22 16:28:22

The Royle Family.
Fawlty Towers.
One foot in the grave.
Absolutely Fabulous

Kate1949 Fri 15-Apr-22 16:28:43

Yes definitely Howard and Hilda. We are watching the repeats at the moment. It's very funny.
I agree re Hi De Hi, Just Good Friends and Only Fools.

Vintagejazz Fri 15-Apr-22 16:51:32

I think Dinner Ladies is one of the best comedies ever. Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads is also brilliant and a great capturing of the early 70s and the expansion of the middle classes. Bob's children would probably have been the first in the family to go to University and, ironically, aspired towards an old house in a cobbled back street over the new built semi that spelt success for Bob.
