How is it in supermarkets and shops please? I have my groceries delivered and so I do not know how it is in the shops.

Cat foods a bit hit and miss, particularly branded ones.

My local Morrisons seems to have gaps on the shelves quite regularly. They have been out of stock of Oven Roasting Bags for weeks now. I buy them in bulk from Amazon

I think that we have become used to far too much choice. A friend and I were talking about yoghurt the other day and said that we remembered that Ski was the only one you could buy and it came in either Strawberry or Raspberry. Perhaps we should head back to those days, not so long ago.

Galaxy Thu 30-Jun-22 12:05:40

But Ski yoghurt is horrible grin

Amalegra Thu 30-Jun-22 12:08:24

Always buy Branston baked beans and own brand (Sainsbury's) soups etc which I find just as good and a lot cheaper. I would miss Heinz tomato sauce though but would not lose sleep over it if I couldn’t find it, just try another! Would be very disturbed not to be able to get my favourite yoghurts or coffee though! Thankfully no shortages there at the moment, just price rises…sigh!

I have cat food issues. My Lily will only eat Sheba trays and they are as rare as hens teeth at the moment.
Last week I couldn’t get strawberries or blueberries on line.
It varies tremendously. One gets quite good at substitution.

1960s first yoghurts I saw in the UK (had had them as a child in Austria in a tall jar with long spoon in a special Molkerie (dairy shop) were Edenvale. Various flavours but no actual things in them, just yoghurt, except the chocolate ones, which had a thick layer of chocolate on top. We loved those. Googling Edenvale says Ski were launched by them.

There's an old Gransnet thread mentions the Edenvale choc tops.

Wondered what type of people still shopped at M&S. After seeing the price of M&S face flannels I now know. Daft ones !!
Last year I bought a large white bath towel at a discount store and made 30 face flannels from it. Total cost £7:98 and a couple of evenings sewing in front of the tv.
Made them for a temporary homeless shelter running over Christmas.
Dare you to be able to afford a donation to charity equal to the difference in cost between my 30 home made face flannels and 30 M&S face flannels.

I agree Coastalgran.

and Amalegra,, yes, Branston baked beans are the best, not that I personally like baked beans, but in the past have had them with hubby

Nescafe coffee prices!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! sky high, I am buying cheaper varieties, I found Morrisons coffee not so bad, not that I am a connoisseur...

well done Tesco's for standing up to Heinz for putting up prices so high, many do not know that a lot of products we buy are exactly the same regardless of brand its just the label that is different

I've found that frozen chopped onions are often out of stock for some reason I don't understand.

There have been other seemingly random shortages lately too. It took a few attempts to get tinned tomatoes recently, and chickpeas were out of stock (Sainsburys online) for a couple of weeks. I can understand flour or oil being hard to come by, but onions, tomatoes and chickpeas?

We always choose the lowest sugar and salt varieties of canned goods and have found many of these harder to find. We’re still shopping entirely on line , so have to check availability before booking a slot.
If you need/want to regulate your sugar or salt intake, do check the labels – some Lidl varieties have
20.6g of sugar in a full can & Aldi have one with 26g sugar, 2.6g salt per can.
Most health nutritionists now recommend no more than 24g of sugar per day for women and no more than 3.5G salt for over 50s women.
It’s really difficult finding low sugar cereals that we like too!

i did an online shop with tesco, some items out of stock mostly things like there own brand of items, i refuse to buy the branded names, shopping was £41 and i got a lot less than i did a month ago. i live on salads and cold meat sandwiches and the price has gone up or the shelf is empty, my top up is at morrisons and they have a few empty shelves, meaning you have to buy the branded items or go without.

Just got back home from a Tesco superstore. Hardly any fresh vegetables and no fresh bread.
Think it’s probably going to get worse.

Caleo Thu 30-Jun-22 13:13:46

My sons who buy from real shops report there is a good choice no different from formerly. I who always grocery shop online notice frequent scarcity including when short -dated item only is available.

Audi10 Thu 30-Jun-22 13:36:11

I love Heinz beans

sharonarnott Thu 30-Jun-22 13:41:59

I've been to Tesco this morning and Heinz products were all in good supply from soups to beans and sauces etc. It was the stores own brands that were looking very sparse

Sainsburys wanted £7.50 for a jar of Kenco Coffee.....Its the only coffee my husband likes...He refused to put it in the trolley on Tues said he would just drink tea...I got the same jar in Asda this morning for £5.00...Why can't groceries be the same price in every shopangry

MayBee70 Thu 30-Jun-22 13:52:02

Haven’t been able to get frozen broccoli with our Tescos delivery for over a year now. Not sure if you can get it in store. Milk has gone up 19 pence.

Nannina Thu 30-Jun-22 13:53:09

The only thing I noticed was sandwich fillers were missing from my local shops and supermarkets for a few weeks but seem to be back now. Really missed the cheese and onion one on my salad and jacket potatoes

Davida1968 Thu 30-Jun-22 14:16:52

Definitely noticing some issues with gaps on shelves, and (as I think we all know), prices going up.

Bazza Thu 30-Jun-22 14:31:34

I haven’t been able to buy celery hearts for ages. Also where are all the luscious peaches and nectarines? I’ve bought ripen at home because they were all I could get, and they were like bullets and then just shrivelled. Are we being punished for brexit?

Seabreeze Thu 30-Jun-22 14:36:44

Brown flour this week. panty liner shortages on and off for weeks in Aldi.

Greciangirl Thu 30-Jun-22 15:06:55

Agree. Heinz beans have very watery sauce.

I much prefer Asda own brand. The sauce is lovely.

I won’t miss the Heinz brands of anything.

I'm having trouble finding Whiskas Cat Food in pouches. Tried different Supermarkets and even B & M. I've bought Lidl own brand (my three cats don't care for it). Bought Felix today from B & M. No Whiskas now anywhere locally for at least four weeks!
