We received 2 lovely big boxes of chocolates at Christmas. Cadburys Milk Tray and Nestle Dairy Box.
What a disappointment!
They were all either truffles or pralines. What has happened to all the lovely creams and nutty centres that I used to love?
Why did they have to change them? 😔

Most chocolate taste grim now because it’s full of palm oil

Just like meat, well, any food really, it is always best to pay the most you can afford.

So we treat ourselves to a box once a year, maybe also at Easter , from a local chocolatier. We can choose the contents and know it is made in the traditional way.

They are divine.

charbonnel.co.uk/

Charbonnel et Walker still do lovely selection boxes

The creamy options ard things like:
Rose & violet cream
Lemon and coconut fondant
Coconut cream
Strawberry fondant
Orange cream

These are the ones I don't want grin
Think the last box I saw at a friend's house was mixed dark/milk.
They are not cheap.

Go Aldi. Much nicer. Here anyway.

Hotel chocolate for a treat or gift - can’t be beaten.
I loathe the cream centred chocs, strawberry, orange, lemon etc. makes my mouth tingle at the thought. Yuk!

NotSpaghetti Fri 03-Feb-23 08:35:03

I'm not a fan either Gingster but I was trying to help those who love Creams and fondant- there are not so many of them these days I think.

I wouldn't eat Cadbury's chocolate even if they paid me, not proper chocolate at all.
My DD brings me Belgian chocolate from the chocolatier in Brussels and Swiss chocolate when she has to work in Geneva, spoilt mois ? 😆

I think Cadbury chocolates are no longer worth buying. I believe it is an American company owners now and has changed the recipe. No longer buy anything made by Cadbury.

Oh, Tony's chocolate is horrible in my opinion. Sorry

Got a ‘free bar’ with a food delivery. Glad it was free because I didn’t like it.

Theexwife Fri 03-Feb-23 13:19:07

I would rather have a couple of chocolates from Hotel Chocolat than a box of any other make.

Esmay Fri 03-Feb-23 13:19:18

We also received boxes of really nasty tasting chocolate .

The centres were vile and some of the chocolate tasted dry and almost chalky .

I didn't do it this year , but I think that my homemade truffles taste far better .

I buy and far prefer bars and the favourite at the moment are the Ferrero Rocher bars from Iceland .

Blossoming Fri 03-Feb-23 13:44:24

I only buy chocolates from Kennedy’s Chocolate Factory these days. Expensive, delicious and worth every penny.

Milk Tray, lime barrels. They should bring these back.

I had a box of Black Magic for Christmas. They were very disappointing and some I found inedible.

Lexisgranny Fri 03-Feb-23 15:33:15

I don’t like milk chocolate or soft centres, oh for Terry’s Spartan.

TillyTrotter Fri 03-Feb-23 15:34:01

I agree with Blossoming . They are especially nice.

Fairislecable Fri 03-Feb-23 15:37:36

I was given some Lauden chocolates once and there is no going back to anything else. The outer shell is crisp and choclety and the inner cream is fresh and flavourful.

DH loves the blackcurrant and these can be ordered as one box.

They are made in UK from quality ingredients.

Cadbury was bought by American Mondaleez (can’t spell it) and hasn’t been worth eating since. It’s full of palm oil and tastes intensely sweet but not of chocolate. As American chocolate is notoriously awful they have wrecked our old favourites.

Wow, they look nice. Plenty of fruity soft centres by the look of it. I have a birthday and Mother's Day coming up so will put this on my wish list. Can't decide between Strawberries and Cream or Lychee and Rose. But then there's orange, lemon or lime too..... 😋

Chestnut Sat 04-Feb-23 00:15:54

Oh dear, just spotted the raspberry and the blackcurrant ones. Now I have no hope of choosing.

jeapurs54 Sun 05-Feb-23 11:21:53

I like Lindt chocolates, you can buy a box and choose the flavours that you like. I had a special Heart shape bought for me and I was able to choose lots of various flavours which I enjoyed. There is not the same selection of types of chocolates but there is a huge range of flavours.

I liked the lime barrel in Milk Tray. I may be in the minority here but it was yummy.

Me too. I love anything lime flavoured
