Smoke

I live in a rural area and am used to, and expect, the various smells and noises associated with living in a farming area. Recently a local farm had a fire in one of its barns damaging the hay bales and they are now having a controlled burn to get rid of them

Now I understand the need for this (yes they have informed the relevant authorities) but did they have to choose what is predicted to be the hottest day of the year when everyone has open windows! My house is now full of the smell of smoke and my eyes are smarting!

You can`t educate the stupid Oldwoman70.
I live in a city and my neighbour started a bonfire on one of the hottest days this year and i was furious and told her so.
Not that it made any difference the ignorant old git.

If the sky is clear, the smoke should dissipate into the atmosphere and be less of a problem. Perhaps this is what the farmer hoped?

I too am fed up with smoke, next door have had another filthy bbq which let's out loads if toxic smoke, 3rd time I have had to take washing in on a very hot day.
Fed up, hot, tired and feeling low is a understatement today. The smoke was straw that broke the camels back.

I do understand how frustrating it would be to have your washing spoiled. Perhaps if your neighbour would tell you when he’s having a bbq. A little chat over the fence might help.

It would be a shame if folks couldn’t have a bbq on a lovely day.

I would have thought that, on such a hot day, people would have their windows and doors firmly shut.

They should be opened only in the early mornings and late evenings to let in cool air.

Please don't call farmers stupid, timetogo. A controlled burn is less damaging to the environment that constantly pouring water on them which releases more smoke and steam over a longer period.

I would agree about the farmers, but why should mu washing be ruined for the 3rd time?
Also on such a hot day, why should I have to breathe in the dreadful toxic smoke, which he cant seem to control. It really is awful.
