Anyone for croquet?

I recently saw an advertisement for a free croquet taster session and, in my attempt to re engage with the world post lockdown, went along. Well I thoroughly enjoyed it. Other club members were middle aged to older but all were very friendly and sociable. The location of the lawns is at a local authority run old mansion house with fabulous views. I found it to be a very pleasant way to spend an afternoon in good company in the fresh air and in a lovely spot. The game was good fun too -'golf croquet' so not too long. I've joined the club. Any other croquet playing Grans?

That sounds lovely. I've played croquet a few times, but not for years, and imagine it would be a very sociable and healthy way to pass an afternoon.

I haven’t yet but a friend goes. There is a croquet club in a village nearby.

We have a croquet set and play with our DGCs. Our ‘lawn’ is neither large or flat and the youngest has a wayward mallet!
But it’s all good fun and the older ones develop it into different games.

We used to play croquet every summer holiday on our granny's croquet lawn which was also set up for clock golf. I've never had the chance to play again. Maybe one day it willl be revived. I'd have a go, even after 60-odd years.

We did a taster session many years ago. It was enjoyable but the club was too far away to go to regularly.

I hadn't played for 50 years. We'd had a set when I was young. Things have changed a bit. The mallets are a different shape these days and I found the new version, golf croquet, much more enjoyable. As ever, good company helps! (Also no bending unlike bowls)

BC ( before covid) we played regularly in a friend’s large garden. Always enjoyed it, and would enjoy even more now I can’t bend down.
I am not generally sporty but didn’t do too badly which was was an extra boost.
