HELP, Dessert Disaster!

We have an event tomorrow and one of the things on the menu was Mocha and Mandarin dessert. It consists of sponge fingers soaked in Kahlua, mandarins, a chocolate sauce, whipped cream and Dark Chocolate & Orange Shavings. The only problem is that the chocolate sauce has turned out to be a very, very sweet fudge like consistency. Whilst this might be wonderful if I were making fudge, it will make the pudding quite sickly. I know the whipped cream might lighten it a little but has anybody got any other ideas how I can make things less sickly. I like my puddings rather more than the next person but I fear more than one spoonful of this will make for hyperglycaemia!

Can you cheat and buy a bottle of chocolate sauce? I'm sure e.g. Tesco's sell it to put over ice-cream.

Can you warm the fudge-like sauce and then slowly pour in some cream and keep whisking until it is thin enough? That should make it less sweet too.

Then perhaps not use so much whipped cream on top.

I am now going to look up 'Kahlua'

Have you got a blender? It may be better done in that but would probably need warming first.

That would be a brilliant idea Jalima if I hadn't already added it to the sponge and mandarins. I usually taste test all the way through but I am on a diet so I had already added it before I realised. shock

Vanilla ice cream would help with a rich dessert.

Would it help if you used natural yoghurt instead of the whipped cream?

I wouldn't use yoghurt, just unsweetened cream . Your pudding sounds like heaven to me !

If one spoonful is enough, then just serve the one spoonful each and put some fresh fruit with it, arranged artistically on the plate. Seasonal fruits, though - not more mandarines!

I didn't realise that the sauce had already been added!

However, it still sounds delicious and you can serve with extra fruit as someone suggested and/or ice cream.

Just the one very large spoonful for me please as I am on a diet too.
