I have read that eating walnuts is good for your heart and also they have cancer avoiding properties???Does anyone know how many a day as once i start eating nuts i usually can not stop they are so moreish. Also has anyone got a tried and tested receipe for grains, greens and beans. I had this yesterday when out with my daughter, it was mixed with green leaves and advocado and it was so tasty, i know it' s hard to replicate a resturant meal but i would love to try.

I use the following from Waitrose - they're very tasty. These types of dishes contain quite a number of ingredients it would be a faff to make them, unless feeding a lot of people. They have other variations, and M&S also do similar:

wheatberries

butternut

chickpea

Having googled it, the consensus is between 5 - 7.

Riverwalk - the site does not tell you how long you can keep these or any storage details - have you used them and do you know this info please?

M0nica - is that 5 - 7 individual nuts? - I must be a picture of rude health as I eat far more nuts than that in a day!

Lucky they keep in the fridge as long as any fresh veg so a good few days. They also freeze well.

One packet contains two good portions if having as an accompaniment.

Yes 5-7 individual nuts.

I am highly sceptical about the wonder attributes of different foods a good mixed diet is what is required. As I quote until people are sick of it 'Eat well, not too much, most of it plants'.

Wow Riverwalk just checked out the links you posted and they look yummeee!!! Will have to get to my nearest branch of Waitrose and stock up.

Monica thank you i will certainly enjoy, our little independant greengrocer in town has just had delivery of a large box of walnuts so i bought 10 today as you can purchase them loose, this way i wont over indulge!!! smile

Thanks for all the info.

We have a mostly plant based diet, beans for protein, plus a little meat or chicken and some oily fish. But I do think it takes more planning and work than , eg. a large meat casserole that lasts for days.
I forgot about the nuts, must use more.

Yes 5-7 nuts, a palm full is right

I eat a lot of smoked mackerel with salads. Love it.
My diet is very varied from fillet steak to creamed mushrooms on toast ( home-made )

I love nuts but don’t buy them often because they’re jolly expensive. Also, I’ve heard that walnuts stain your teeth.
