Slow cooking

I have had several slow cookers in my time as head chef. Huge ones (now permanently in a cupboard), middle ones and I have just ordered a mini one from Lakeland. My question is, how is it possible to stop the food from sticking in the pot. My present medium pot, which has a timer, seems to cook very quickly and often burns food even when on low. I wish someone would make a small pot suitable for two people, with a timer, so it stops cooking after a pre set time!

You can buy slow cooker liners - you cook the food in them and then seal and chill/freeze or serve up.

Sorry, should have added - the food doesn’t burn in them!

I've got a medium size slow cooker and have never had a problem with food sticking to the bottom. Maybe you need to add more liquid? However, I'm not a head chef.

I coat mine with olive oil before I use it. It does form a ring going the sides but washes off easy enough. Never had food stick to the bottom.

My slow cooker doesn’t have a timer on it so I’ve used a timer that you’d normally programme to switch lights on and off while your house is empty.

I’m with sirchenjin, use liners, no burnt food and no cleaning.

Thanks. I have used the liners and they are good, but then I worry about adding to land fill. Perhaps I do need to add more liquid.

Ps head chef referred to sallywally1 being the sole cook in my house!

I have up on a Murphy Richards one because it cooked everything too fast .I have 2 others that are fine . I would not be happy using liners what chemicals are they putting in you food .

I use one regularly. Never burn food. Usually a ring around at level of food which takes a bit of cleaning off

I use non-stick cooking spray which works fairly well. Only a few small areas where meat stuck after 8 hours.

Like SueDonim I have a 24 hour timer which I set to go on and off when needed.
I only use mine for stews, meat of some kind plus soaked dried beans and other veg. There's lots of fluid.

ps you attach the plug of the slow cooker to the timer which has a 3 pin plug.

I really love my slow cooker. Yes, there's a dried-on ring of food left in the pot but I leave it to soak in the sink. Later, I scrub it with sugar and it goes in the dishwasher.
