Quick rainy day activities

Make slime.

Recipe:

1 cup of pva glue
Half a teaspoon baking powder
Few drops of food colouring and glitter if wanted
A few squirts of contact lens solution that must contain boric acid

Method:
Mix glue and baking powder in largish bowl until dissolved. Add food colouring. Start to add drips of contact lens solution until you see the glue start to become stringy and coming away from the sides if the bowl. Continue to add a little at a time until you can gather the slime togethat and the sides of the bowl is clean. Add the glitter now if you want it. If you want, you can add half a cup of shaving foam, at the first stage, if you want a fluffy slime. You'll need a bit mire food colouring for fluffy slime.

Keeps well, if stored in an air tight box, for over a week.

I'm keeping an eye on this thread because we have a week alone ahead with our 4 Yr old DGS in America soon. He is used to being occupied; my DS1 (his Dad) is always doing experiments and little projects with him. As it's Easter I shall be making a cake or pancakes with him, blowing eggs and painting them.. I shall have a serious discussion with DiL before they go off and leave us as to how she wants Easter explained to him. Both our families are practising Catholics but they don't attend a particular church out there.

Other ideas for your activity cards:

Collect together 4-5 everyday objects and make up a story where they all feature.

Teach him noughts and crosses and/or "boxes" (the game where you draw rows of dots and take it in turn to join dots horizontally and vertically to make squares. If you complete a square you get an extra go. The one to finish the last. Box wins)

I will be looking on here for more of the physical kind of challenge as I'm not very sporty....

Our 7 and 10 yr old love I spy. Also the alphabet game. Pick a theme i.e. food, name them alphabetically in turn

My two oldest DGC (6 & 7.5) are coming over this afternoon and sleeping over, and these 'challenges' sound like a great idea for filling a few gaps ?

Make an origami hat out of newspaper

A stop watch / kitchen timer thingy - then how long he can stand on one leg and then the other . Maybe add a book to record how long etc and try to beat his PB ?

Not a challenge, but a rainy day activity.

Packet of seeds (seeds not too small), squares of loo paper, (extra needed for making - saucer of "glue" made from flour and water). Glue a seed to each square of loo roll for easy planting later.
