With this lack of activity, I could hardly get out of bed this morning, it was so painful. I've felt a similar pain before but now much worse. I think it's my left hip wearing out.
Once I got moving and had a short walk (I went to the nearby pharmacy and got some more paracetamol) I feel better now.
Does anyone have a basic gentle exercise regime they can suggest? Or anything else?
I'm mid-80s.

Sorry to hear that, Fennel. This website has a lot of info about arthritis including exercises for hip, knee, etc. Exercise is the key as you've already discovered after stiffening up through lack of activity.

I’m always stiff in the mornings with two hip replacements and arthritis in most joints but without fail walking eases it . So I walk and excercise every day. It’s what keeps me going.

I would investigate the possibility of doing Tai Chi. There are lots of sessions on Youtube. Look through several until you find one you get on with

Thanks for the replies - yes I've made an effort to walk every morning over the last few years. It has become increasingly difficult.
People have said you should stay in the house, but if I didn't get out every day I would be a cripple.
Very few people out, mostly oldies like me.
I was pleased to get the paracetamol from the pharmacy because the supply at Tesco has stopped. Same price too.
M0nica I'll have a look at Tai Chi.

Fennel we were glad we are allowed out for an hour exercise as my DH's back has been much worse lately due to the greatly reduced exercise. He does need it to loosen up or he's in agony. Hardly anybody else out and when meet we cross the road!

There are masses of exercises on YouTube for older people to do from home, some sitting down.
Don’t seize up!
