Do you take medication to lower your cholesterol and have you had side effects from them? Simvastatin caused skin problems and avortastatin (lipitor) acute fatigue! my reading is 5 but gp wants it lowered. I eat healthy diet with no meat. I weigh under 10 stone

I was prescribed at statin some years ago, but thought it was causing a problem and stopped. I restarted a year later after advice from GP (genetic risk of cardiovascular probs) and haven't had any issues since. I take in the morning, despite advice that it's more effective in evening, as I would be likely to forget to take it at all!

A recent article based on research might be of interest:

Mine too BlueSky and M0nica. I started on statins aged 38 as my cholesterol was way too high and I’m told it is the type that can’t be altered by diet called Familial and it is usually hereditary.
My weight is low, but high cholesterol affects folks of all weights and shapes.
Since my blood pressure is high too, my statins dosage has gone higher to 80 mg. I don’t like to take the meds but the doc says I am at major risk of furred up arteries (and possible stroke) and so I’ll take them . I don’t have side effects.

I have genetic high cholesterol level of 8.6. I was told I was very likely candidate for a stroke so reluctantly agreed to take atorvastatin 40mg. I’ve been on it without any side effects for 14months without follow up bloods due to pandemic.

DH has hyperlipidaemia - in his forties his cholesterol was 13 so he has been on statins ever since with no side effects but well managed levels. He is athletic still, east a very very healthy diet and is the correct weight- sad for him really.
