Travel insurance for undiagnosed condition

Has anyone tried to get travel insurance for an as-yet -undiagnosed-but-highly-likely-to-be a basal cell carcinoma? I had the lump removed 2 weeks ago, but unlikely to get results of biopsy for another 2 or so weeks because of path lab backlog. Holiday not til August, but have just paid balance, so would like to insure. But 'undiagnosed condition' would bump up quotation . I can't tell them it is a BCC, as this might not be true. Anyone had any experience of this?

They always ask you if you are waiting for a diagnosis from hospital tests. They probably will ask you if you have had any procedures done in the last 2 years.

They will probably insure you but you won’t be covered for whatever you might have had the biopsy for. So the quote might not be higher but it won’t cover you for that particular problem.

Give them a call, we are with Saga and I spoke to them this week to arrange Travel Insurance, they are very helpful, but there are an awful lot of medical questions to be answered before they will give you a quote.

Why did you not get insurance when you booked in the first place ? Friends did not bother putting it off until later and the husband got cancer and they lost the lot . It was a holiday to Australia . Whatever you do be honest with the insurers .

It wouldn’t have mattered if you had insurance when you first booked (This is actually the correct way to do it ) because you would have had to advise them of any medical changes or your policy would be invalid
We had this problem we have had an AA yearly policy but my husband has undiagnosed AF. He was poorly last November with a chest infection they picked up an AF rhythm in his heart which may or not be related to the infection. He has been waiting for a cardiac investigation since then which has been cancelled a few times. When I advised AA they wouldn’t cover him. No fault of ours just the slowness of the NHS
I contacted Staysure Travel Insurance they were happy to cover us and I found them very helpful. Our is a little different as I only had to have UK cover as they classed the Channel Isles as the UK many don’t. It was cancellation cover I needed and they will not cover medical expenses
But give them a call they are very obliging

This group came top in a Times customer survey for medical cover and swift response, may be worth a call.

Yes - I know - should have taken out insurance when I booked, but somehow forgot to do it - and, as Rosie1959 said, it wouldn't have made any difference as you then have to declare the new condition/treatment anyway, which will make insurance premium increase. The balance was paid today, so will just have to wait 2 weeks until I get confirmation of diagnosis before booking insurance. Will certainly look at some of your recommendations. Thanks.

A few years ago we paid a deposit on a holiday in January for a holiday in the September we have holiday insurance with our bank account then just before the balance was due to be paid in the July my husband was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer i didnt really want to go as my husband was not well but he wanted to go so i rang the insurance company to see if we would still be covered if we went ahead and paid the balance,they said to go ahead as we booked before he was diagnosed so we paid the balance in full,sadly by the time came to travel my husband was really ill so we had to cancel. When i claimed the insurance
we got all the money back witin a week.

Strangely enough, we've just had this very same problem. My husband was awaiting a diagnosis for Parkinson's Disease last week. The Consultant says he has a number of the symptoms but needed an MRI, so we had not received any letter of diagnosis. When I rang a number of travel insurance companies, all but one said they would not insure us whilst he is under diagnosis, full stop! If we had already got insurance, it would now be invalid anyway, they said, so that would have made no difference, and we couldn't have 'upgraded ' it whilst under diagnosis. We panicked as our long-saved for holiday to USA was within two weeks. (This was a holiday already postponed twice due to covid, and where we originally had insurance in place) Only Direct Line said that if we paid the premium for PD then we would be covered. I was wary as no one else was prepared to insure us, and what if it wasn't PD? How would that effect the insurance cover? I rang his consultant and his secretary said she'd do what she could to get the letter through as soon as possible, by hurrying the results of the MRI, but wasn't promising anything. Thank goodness she came through and we got the letter and the medication within days. Incidentally, I had asked the travel agent if we could postpone the holiday and he said no, as it was fully paid and it was too late, and if we had to cancel, we'd lose everything we'd paid as we had no insurance!! Catch 22 situation!! Yes, I tried Staysure - useless. And Saga were even worse - no advice whatsoever. I even rang parkinsons.org but they had no advice either except to say it is a common problem! No one was able to suggest a way round it, so thank goodness we got the diagnosis, and yes, of course, we went with Direct Line, as they were the only ones who would even attempt to suggest ideas, and offered to ring back in a few days to see if we could get further info from the hospital. I do hope you get yours sorted out - good luck! We need a holiday now to deal with the stress all this caused!
