I received this e-mail today. I have already signed the petition. I have been asked to forward it on. apologies if it is inappropriate to post it here. If anyone has any objections then I am happy to delete it. Alternatively if you wish to sign the petition I am sure it would be help - thank you.

Dear FairFuelUK Supporter,

It appears that the Government and institutions like the International Monetary Fund are finally accepting that more needs to be done to increase growth in the economy. There are substantial rumours that the Government might be trying to bring forward spending on major infrastructure projects to boost growth.

This may be a good idea. However, in all of these discussions, the politicians are not even discussing that CUTTING FUEL DUTY NOW could actually be a major part of the answer! A fuel duty cut now would boost growth, reduce inflation and create jobs. Additionally, we believe that the Government itself would gain, as the greater economic activity would yield more tax.

To get the politicians talking about this as an option, we now only need 8,000 extra signatures at bit.ly/FFUK-Gov

When we hit the 100,000 target we will force a full Parliamentary debate on this issue. FairFuelUK, the RAC, FTA and RHA will then have your mandate to make them see sense.

Additionally, over coming weeks, we will be asking our supporters to write and email their MPs to put our case.

For now, our main priority is getting the 100,000 signatures on bit.ly/FFUK-Gov

Our economic case for a cut in fuel duty now can be downloaded from bit.ly/FFUKprospectus

We ask your understanding if you have already signed. This ePetition is different than any that we have done before as it is on the Governments own servers and we have no way of knowing which of our supporters has signed. Forwarding this email to friends and colleagues would be a great help in getting those last few thousand vital signatures.

With enormous thanks for your support to date,

Kind regards,

Peter Carroll

PS: If you use Twitter, please follow us at www.twitter.com/FairFuelUK . The @FairFuelUK account has over 100 MPs and Politicians already following our campaign for lower fuel prices. This means that your tweets will be seen by these decision makers if your follow us.

PPS: If you have any problems signing up to the Government's ePetition website, please go to www.fairfueluk.com/epetitionproblems.html

The FairFuelUK campaign is supported by the RAC (7 million members) and the two bodies that represent the UK road freight industry, the RHA and the FTA. Between them the RHA and FTA have over 20,000 members. The campaign also enjoys the support of approaching 200,000 members of the public. We are aiming to get 1 million on board as soon as possible. Please follow FairFuelUK on Twitter and Facebook

Hi Nanny1
Well done on bringing this to our notice - have just signed!
Please can you and anyone else looking at this thread who may not have seen my previous threads, look up the Health Forum where I posted an 'URGENT Save our Coastguard Stations' thread.
We need just under 99,000 Yes NINETY NINE THOUSAND signatures so please help!
Gransnet - would it be possible to have a forum where e-petitions like this and the Coastguard one can be put?
I am sure that Gransnetters would be interested in signing even some of them but unless you come across them by chance when visiting a forum or a thread you can miss them.
I saw in a recent thread that there are approx 7,000 Gransnetters - what a difference those 7000 could make to these petitions - how about it Gransnet?

Signed. smile

Hi Sbagran

I have just signed the e-petition.

I had a bit of difficulty finding the post but managed by putting "coastguard" into the search box.

I agree that an e-petition forum would be a useful option to have.

Can we set one up ourselves? (or not?)

Sbagran Thu 22-Sep-11 21:57:03

Thanks nanny1 - I don't know how a new forum is set up or how you can actually communicate with GN staff. perhaps other gransnetters know?
I have seen replies from GN staff in other forums so perhaps someone is reading this and will respond?
Meanwhile keep signing both petitions folks - I feel it would be great to have a forum specifically for e-petitions as then we could all sign or not depending upon how we feel but would all be aware of what petitions are available.
I had no idea that there was a petition re the fair fuel campaign until you started the thread and I am sure not many knew of the coastguard one until mine.
Thanks on behalf of the coastguards! smile

Hi Sbagran - I just e-mailed Gransnet admin to ask if it would be possible to set up a dedicated forum. We shall wait and see what transpires :-)

nanny1 Mon 26-Sep-11 00:15:24

Only 5,000 more signatures required to hit the 100,000 mark for the Fair fuel campaign - thanks to all who signed :-)

Also the new epetition forum is up and running - thanks Gransnet :-)

UPDATE

Great news for all FairFuelUK Campaign Supporters

Assuming there are no issues with any unforeseen Government's priorities, we have just been notified that there will be "the FairFuelUK debate" in the House of Commons on Tuesday November 15th. This is fantastic news.

The Campaign team wishes to thank Natascha Engel MP, Chair of the Back Bench Business Committee, who schedules Government allocated time to such important issues for debate. She has responded very quickly to the intense pressure the campaign and its supporters has put onto all MPs and her Committee in the last few days.

We wish to thank the 100,000 FairFuelUK ePetitioners, our 200,000 FairFuelUK website followers and the 11,000 supporters who rallied to email their local MPs over the last weekend. Without this pressure, we may have not got the debate. A BIG BIG THANK YOU.

Many thanks too, to Robert Halfon MP and his team for driving through the ePetition and the motion to be debated through the Back Bench Business Committee process. This was not an easy task.

Of course this is just the next stage in the Campaign for lower fuel duty and prices. There is still a long battle ahead. SO, please lobby your MP to attend this debate. We do not wish to see any empty seats in the House on this momentous FairFuelUK day.

Best wishes

The FairFuelUK Campaign team
The RAC, FTA and RHA
